Do Pitchers ever apologize to the batters they bean with a pitch?

Question:I would think that any one's reaction to drilling someones temple with a 95 mph pitch, would be to immediately see if they were OK. I realize they are trying to maintain their mind set and concentration, but what about afterwards? Apology?

What do you thinks gonna happen to Joe Torre??

I disagree that most hit batters are intentional. If they had better control and then they hit tons of batters, then I'd agree, but control is not something that is in huge supply these days.

Most pitchers will try to signal an apology.

If someone hits 2 consecutive homers off of you, it's not the other teams fault, it's between you and your catcher, so I don't understand that.

It's hard to go immediately to see if someone's ok because 1) it may throw you off your game
2) their team may not want you there if they are hurt
3) what else can you do besides saying you're sorry. It's probably small consolation at that time.

Japanese are notorious for being honourable, so a tip of the cap or nod would indicate the Japanese equivilent of "my bad".

MLB aren't so honourable, something that's never taught.

Most guys will nod and let you know that the pitch got away from them and that it wasn't intentional.

How is dodger stadium compared to other parks?

In the major leagues, at least 70% of the time, throwing at a batter is intentional. When a pitcher gives up two consecutive home runs, 9 times out of 10 the next batter to the plate gets hit. Or if a player on his team was hit last inning, it's payback time. Or if a player is too close to the plate in the pitcher's estimation, it's a good time to at least "brush him back".
That being said, there are times when a pitch just gets away from a pitcher. A couple weeks ago, a player from the Minnesota Twins (Torii Hunter) was hit in the mouth by a fastball. He immediately began to charge the mound, but then realized it wasn't intentional and went down. After the game, the pitcher went to check on Hunter and apologized. I guess this is just a long way of saying, it depends on the situation.

Which baseball team is better?

As long as it wasn't intentional, yes, and frequently so. You never know if that batter might be a future teammate.

Do think Jeff Kent should hang up the cleats or at least become a DH?

NEVER APOLOGIZE! It's a sign of weakness! If a pitcher beans a hitter, 99 out of 100 times its on purpose and if you apologize that makes it look like you're shakey in your confidence. The idea of beaning a player or throwing at a player is to let that hitter know that I can throw this ball anywhere I want to, and if I feel like it I'm going to throw inside and I'll throw at you. That's my plate and you're not welcome here!
