Did Roger Clemens let his ego make the decision to sign with the Yankees instead of using his brains?

Question:In other words did Roger Clemens make the right decision by signing with the Yankees instead of the Red Sox or Astros simply because he felt needed by the Yankees and not so with the Red Sox or Astros? Also how big of a mistake do you feel that Roger Clemens made by signing with the Yankees instead of with the Red Sox or even with the Astros in your opinion?

A mistake?
Clemens made the right choice. The yankees fans already know him and they are the best fans in the world. They know him already and some of his personal friends are on the team. The red sox will fail again like last year so this is the right decision.

What pay roll stat is more shocking?

It had nothing to do with ego. All major leaguers have egos to begin with. It was all about the money and the perks that when with it. He was smart. He hates Boston for the way they treated him and ran him out of town. He pitched great in Houston but never got any run support. In New York he knows that the Yankees are an offensive machine so he knows he will win a lot more games.

With his appearance Billy Martin-like and the cheers Billy Martin-like, Clemens has the possibility of putting a huge exclamation point on his brilliant career in a city whose fans truly appreciate him.

The Red Sox and Astros were never in the running - in my opinion - and George was bidding against himself, desperate to stay in the pennant race after the absolutely miserable start. The other clubs could not have matched the Yankees staggering offer and - though it's a totally different organization - there just seems to be something that prevents Clemens from ever wearing the Red Sox uniform.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out since Clemens must put the Yankees in position to win every one of his starts, an undaunting task. He isn't Koufax, but nothing short of perfection will be seen as a mediocre "pro-rated" year.

What if Barry Bonds becomes an MLB manager, 10 yrs from now?

I think he's only still in baseball because he got to get back with the Yankees. Changed his mind on the retirement, hooked up with the home club, now he wants to actually win again. I don't blame him. He shouldn't have left the Yankees to begin with. He's just a Yankees man.

IMHO

NLCS material?

Well Houston is terrible and has done nothing to help make themselves better. And their closer Brad Lidge is messed up mentally and no longer the closer he used to be. After the dismal run support the last two years there was no way he was going back there.

Boston, the fans hate him and the owners ran him out of town. He used them as leverage against the Yankees to get more money. Plus baseball has an ego cap, with Curt "can't stop talking about myself" Schilling already there the Sox were almost over the ego cap as it is.

So back to New York, they have a great offense, which he will need to get more wins. And they have, albeit a struggling, Mario Rivera to close out games. He is the greatest closer of our lifetime and he will regain his form soon. Plus I think he really does like Steinbrenner and Coach Torre, not to mention Pettite is back there too.

So yes, Roger made the right call... Although I am sure the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ doesn't hurt.

Who do you think is better, the Yankees or the Mets?

I love Rocket but you have to know that his ego is huge. He most likely did go with the Yankmes so that he could be the star. I don't think he will wind up with another world series ring but he will definitely be a star there.

Many, many Sox fans would love to see him on the mound at Fenway again, but I don't see that happening. There is too much resentment on his part for the way they let him go.

I hope it works out for him, until the ALCS anyhow :)

Another person who hasn't read the First Amendment!!

Any person is entitled to make decisions for themselves. They are under no obligation to make the choice that you would make for them or that you would make for yourself. Nor are they under any obligation to explain their decision to any individual outside of their immediate family.

How do i get to Yankee Stadium from Pen. Station?

not sure why ppl think athletes look at jobs any differnt than the rest of us but i am guessing he went with yankees cuz they gave him what he wanted;also guessing the yankees needed him the most and therefore were willing to give him what he wanted..therefore thinking he made teh right decision..or he wouldnt have done it...

Baseball Standings. half game, full game behind?

He went where he felt they needed him
He went where they were going to pay him a million dollars a start.
He is going where his ego can be massaged or rubbed out depending on his performance and at 45 can he perform? The Yankees will provide Clemens with better run support than Houston . I thought since he started in Boston he would end his career there. There is also the possibility that Boston dd not need him like New York did. I hope they think he is worth it .

The devil rays?

It's all about the money and getting whatever perks he wants. It's not about "Yankee Pride" or "tradition" or any other nonsense which spills forth from his mouth. It's about being able to do what he wants when he wants while simultaneously commanding the largest single season salary (when it's prorated) in the history of baseball - which is his right. It just seems excessive and greedy.

Why are the Pittsburgh Pirates, Cardinals, Phillies and Houston Astros all wearing number 42?

He made the wrong decision. The Yanks were desperate and gave him whatever he wanted, something they weren't willing to do last season. He would have been a better fit with Boston, who has a better chance at a ring.

On a personal note, he is my favorite player and it sickens me he is back in the hellhole called the Yankees clubhouse.

Softball practicing tips for catchers?

I think that he is trying as hard as possible to retire his last season with a world series ring to go out in a blaze of glory. If he really wants that then he better step up because the Yanks dont need to have anyone dragging their feet like Randy Johnson did.

I never enjoyed him being on the team but I hope he proves me wrong.

Can anybody give me the names of the yankees players who have restaurants?

he went with the Yankees because they offered the most money..nothing about loyalty..or Yankee mystique..he just went with the money.

What is the best pitching book available? (baseball)?

I dont think you can call signing a contract that give you $4.5 million a month a mistake. The yankees were always going to be his team, after they signed Petite, Roger felt like a lost dog and had to follow him to the Yankees just like he did when he followed him to the Astros for 3+ years. The Yanks had the money, the friends, and the history Roger covetted,
