Is a baseball which has been sitting out in the rain for weeks ruined?
Question:My kids constantly leave brand new baseballs out in the yard. They lay there getting rained on and water logged. Can a baseball like this be dried out and be as good as new or is it a gonner? (We still use them, but do they lose something in that process which makes them not usable in a game?)

Minnesota Twins, the Piranhas. A name change?
I have done that more often then I care to admit. They do not completely dry out. In addition, they are heavier and dead. I remember hitting those baseballs after they had dried and they hurt your hands when you hit them and they didn't go very far. Also you could hurt your arm by throwing a baseball that is heavier then a new baseball.Do you think it is disrespectful at MLB games...?
just let it sit and dry out for a while...then it should be okIs there any chance that Babe Ruth was on some sort of steroid?
those baseballs become waterlogged and they are ruined. if your kids are serious about playing get them new balls but if not leave them with the waterlogged ones (it shouldnt be THAT bad). but yes there is a difference, the ball becomes heavier and more difficult to throw accurately and further. lol no you cant dry it offIt can dry out and serve the purpose but it won't have that pop to it
Has Chipper Jones of the Atlanta Braves ever successfully performed a hidden ball trick?
Once they get water logged I don't think they can be dried out. I play softball and some of our balls have gotten water logged and my coach just throws them out. They get heavier, which would not make them usable for a game. Why does Los Angeles have two baseball teams? Angels and Dodgers?
When I was a kid, I used to lose them all the time in the hay fields. They'll always be okay to practice with, but probably not for any competitive game.More Questions & Answers...
