Question:When you guys play baseball, aren't you afraid of getting hit by the baseball? I mean, if you were the pitcher, and the ball was batted staright to you, what would you do? Pitchers don't wear helmets so aren't they scared of getting hit? I don't think you could dodge a baseball so don't answer that!

I play baseball, and I'm not really scared of getting hit. I'm not scared because I've learned over the years when you get scared, you don't do as good. So you always play confident and not afraid, and you do a lot better. You can really get hit with anything in everyday life, so the key is just to not be afraid!I don't play baseball but I watch it and my bestfriend plays. I have seen games when the ball was batted at a pitcher and he was able to duck in time. I think all of them are scared off getting hit. A little while ago a ball boy got hit with a ball in the head and got knocked out.
ive been hit in the face with a 75+ mph pitch in the face. broke my nose. i guess u can say i was never the same again. then again thats what seperates the pros from the joes, the pros can get hit and shake it off mentally.

Great question. Pitchers don't actually realize that they can get hit in the face with the ball if they aren't on the ball, however many of them don't even think twice about pitching in fear of getting hit because it is highly unlikely that a pitcher will throw the ball quickly and not have quick reflexes. In other words, the level of baseball the pitcher is proportional to the speed the ball will come at his face after the batter hits it. And i believe that the better the pitcher, the better the reflex to catch it coming right at him.Would you trade Derek Jeter for Jose Reyes if you had the chance?.?
If youre a pitcher, you can always use your glove to block the ball.I have played baseball all my life and in fact pitchers do get hurt by line drives sometimes but not that often that its a huge problem. Also usually you can at least get your glove up. But it does happen, in fact my coaches brother is a pitcher being recruiting by the majors and a few months ago he took a hard line drive right to his head, he was hurt pretty bad but a couple months later he was back. Also I heard that college and maybe high school may ban metal bats because the ball is being hit too hard and players are getting hurt. But in my opinion and don't see that happening anytime soon. So basically my point is that it happens but not very often.

If you're scared you can't go out and do the job you're supposed to, which is throw strikes and get guys out. Its always in the back of your head, but you just have to not think about and play the game. You can dodge a ball, depending on how fast its hit, but its also smart to finish in a good fielding position. That can help protect you because even if you only get part of your glove on a shot back at you, you'll at least slow it down.What should my daughter name her softball team?
