Which Major League All-Stars/Hall of Famers Went Through The Minors VERY Quickly?

Question:They don't have to be sure fire first ballot hall of famers (though they can be), but they should be VERY VERY good. Maybe a guy like Griffey who used to be excellent and then sort of fell off? Are there are any others? Did Jeter, A Rod or Pujols? Randy Johnson?

When did Cubs fans lose their class?

How about Roger Clemens...Drafted in the 1983 draft 1st round/19th overall and and started 20 games in 1984. There are alot of pitchers who are brought in slowly. In 1986 he was AL MVP and Cy Young winner both. Randy Johnson was drafted in 1985 by the Expos and didn't play until 88(4 games) and in 89(only 7 games).

Pujols was drafted in 1999(13th round) by the Cards and I'd have to say they have the got the most bang for their buck( or millions). His first year was 2001 and take a look at the third link below and I would say he contributed the most as a rookie, probably in the history of MLB.

Baseball tickets...?

Dave Winfield never spent a day in the minors and was drafted by 3 professional leagues, MLB, NFL and NBA (despite not having played basketball) and he certainly went on to a HOF career.

In general, you would be looking for players who began their major league career early in life (18, 19). Randy Johnson was 27, 28ish before he actually became dominent.
Others were rookies at 24, 25, which is why they start to peak at 28.
Bonds, in his 22nd season is still only 42, which means he must have been 20 when he began. Griffey was 19.

Roger Clemens and Andy Petitte=Brokeback Mountain?

As a baseball fan, what makes opening day so special to u?

Dave Winfield and Al Kaline never spent a day in the minors. Robin Yount didn't spend much time in the minors. Jackie Robinson played a couple weeks in the minors I think. Jeter actually spent considerable time in the minors. A-Rod was down for a short time.

Al Kaline - Signed just out of high school and never played a day in the minors. One of the best ever!

Don't baseball fans have any interest in reasoned, intelligent discussion and debate any more?

Not a few, not some, not half but almost EVERY superior ballplayer in baseball history spent well below the average amount of time in the minor leagues. If the average minor league career is 4-5 years, the best players generally spend 2 years maximum in the bush leagues. There's always an exception, but the overwhelming majority of the players who turn out to be stars get to the big leagues relatively fast. :-)

Fun World Series Matchups?

Dave Winfield is a HOF'er and never played in the minors. Paul Molitor had one season in the minors. George Brett spend 1 1/2 seasons in the minors. That's three.

As for current players, there is no guarantee who will and who won't be selected for the Hall. Both Derek Jeter and Randy Johnson spent almost 3 seasons in the minors. That's not quick.

When healthy, who is better: Kris Benson or AJ Burnett?

1. Dave Winfield, never played in the minors.
2. Bob Feller All- star at age 17
3. Al Kaline batting champion rookie year!
4. Babe Ruth played part of a year in the minors with Baltimore and by the end of the year was playing with the Boston Red Sox in 1914.

Does throwing a baseball up to yourself and hiting it help improve hitting skills?

All the guys you mention there went to the minors. None stayed there very long, but they did go, to their benefit. Few can ever get to the bigs right off of high school or college. Many guys who debut professionally in the Majors end up in the minors, and some never get back to the bigs.
Maybe the best player ever who went straight to the Majors was Dave Winfield. He went from the U. of Minnesota to the San Diego Padres, and never spent a day in the minors. He was also drafted by the Minnesota Vikings, the Atlanta Hawks, and the Utah Stars of the old ABA. Four teams in three sports. It might have happened to someone else, but I doubt it.
