Weight for how the batter prefers it. Some are scooped some not. Some batters shave the weight off the bats handle.not all are....but if they are it is to get the bat a lighter weight without giving up any length.

Its a "cupped" bat. It takes weight out of the end of the bat to make it easier to get a level swing.It makes the bat lighter which increases bat speed and therefore, power. The very end of the bat serves no purpose as far as making contact is concerned, so there's no harm in cupping it.
