Why were baseballs changed from horsehide to cowhide in 1974? Also, what is in the inside of a base ball?
Question:I assume cowhide is just the covering of a baseball and maybe cork and twine is inside. Could the change to cowhide be, because cattle is more numerous?

It's nice to think they changed because people like horses, etc, but that just isn't the case. There was a shortage of horses in 1974 and so they switched to cowhide. Simple as that.As for the inside of a baseball, there are two parts: the round cork pill in the middle and the wool and poly/cotton windings. The windings are mostly wool until the last portion, which are poly/cotton windings, before the cowhide is put on.

Yea...and also cows are more expensible...but killing horses for baseballs made manny poeple angry! inside is just thread of many numerous fabrics put together in one.The use of horses for food was outlawed so there are few horse slaughter houses in the US. Horsehide was hard to come by. Cowhide is much easier to come by because Americans love to eat steak. Plenty of hides.
