What do you think about Roger clemens return to the yankees?
Question:I'm a dodger fan and I'm not a yankee hater or fan but I love good baseball
I've adored Clemens but I kinda lost my respect for him after signing this ridiculous deal...getting paid $28 m for 2/3 of the season and when he's not piching on the road he doesn't have to travel with the team.
I know he did that with the astros too but I didn't know that until now.
He said he didn't sign for money but juss to win a championship with the yankss, then why does he need all this money? Why did he agree to this ridiculous deal? What kind of message does it send to young fans? MOney is more important than the game? What happened to playin for the love of the game? Remember him in the commercial goin "i love this game" ? So is that all juss for earning money?
I mean I know the guy's worth a lot of money but don't you think this is wayyy over the top?
He has performed well at an incredible age and I hope he's worth the hype and does well with the yankees and earn his respect back.

b/c he can win and he should be on a winning teamI think the Yankees are pulling out all stops to get back to where they were 4 years ago. Ever since they lost to Boston it's like they're cursed. I don't know maybe it's all in their minds, but they need to get over this by developing young players with they right draft picks instead of buying talent. I have't seen the Yankees do this in quite some time. I'm an Oakland A's fan and know all about developing young talent. So it does work with a little time.
Why doesn't my gf play? what can i say to him to make him feel better?
I think I wish I could post just an image of a Horse getting beaten to death.Where is the ticketmaster International Will Call collection point for NY Yankees Games?
To be honest, I think that it's all about the money. But you have to factor in that Andy Petite is back in Brooklyn and the Yankees pitching staff is awful. So it's a toss up, and left to personal opinion.Any idea what (if anything) a signed A-Rod ball from when he played in the Minors would be worth?
Honestly, you're telling me somebody comes up to you and says they are going to pay you $28 million dollars to do whatever it is that you're good at you're going to turn it down. i know i wouldn't. By no means do i believe he's worth it or should be paid that much nor should he not travel with the team but if someones willing to pay you hell take it. the Yankees need to find pitching extremely bad and they did it the only way good ole George knows how with money. Go Twins! The money doesn't matter to me, he probably did not suggest the figure it was offered, so he had the option to say he will do it for less, would make no sense.
the travel part of the deal as I understand it was offered to him by the Houston not suggested by him.
I will be interested to see how often it does not travel with the team, since he doesn't live in NY, there is not as much of a reason for him not to travel as when he was in Houston where he lived.
Do you think they will get the Met Yankee game in on Friday Night?
it might be a good thing.. maybe not it all depends on his first startThere are SO many factors to this. First off, it is a reatrded sum of money. For anyone. And this whole "for the love of the game" BS is just that, BS. Look at a real player who just loves the game and his team. Gabe Kapler was making something like 1.2 million, then took a pay cut to something like $500,000 to stay with the Sox. HE loved the game and had respect for his team. People like Manny who complain about the place when they make obscene amounts of cash, that is a truly distorted reality. Clemens went to NY because he got THE best deal. Boston would never have paid anywhere close to that amount.
The other side is Steinbrenner. This douche goes on and on about how great his organization is, how they have a real "team" that has discipline. He set the rules and everyone has to follow them. If anything, his crazy spending was somewhat offset by the fact that he held everyone to the same team standard in most areas. Now all that is thrown out the window. He has allowed Clemens to set his own standard, and has shown that his money spending on these crazy all-star free agents is simply about crushing everyone and there is no other standard.
Granted, no body is breaking a rule by doing this. But they are making the sport of baseball look like the plain and simplpe business it has become.
Roger Clemens will go down as one of the greatest pitchers in history. However, he is done. Him signing with the Yankees will do nothing but inflate their payroll. Clemens was a great pitcher, but he breaks down all too often and is not the big game pitcher he once was. That happened last year as well as the year before when the White Sox swept the Astros for the title. He should have just stayed retired. I know he came back and was productive in the past, but he wasn't 45 years old then. He has overstayed his effectiveness. Many of his teammates resent the fact that he gets extra special treatment over and above the regualr superstar status and only has to come in to pitch for part of a season. Not good for a locker room that is already stressed because big George has had the biggest payroll and not won one in a while.
Last night's game? (Seattle?)?
Clemens did what you or i would have done.Baseball is his job and he chose to go to the company that will give him the best salary as many of us do in our real world jobs as well.It wasn't just that though.Petite is probably his best friend on and off the field and so petite going back also was a factor.I think he would have been more of a sell out for signing with my team the Red Sox cause then it would have come across as him trying to take the easiest road to another world series ring given the current situation the teams courting him are in.I think a guy whos already won some rings needs a little something extra to drive him,to keep him motivated. In this case its to turn around a Yankee team on the brink of disaster and saving the day and being able to play with his pal petite plus other buddies he probably missed after leaving the team Like Jeter and Posada. What a good story it would be if he could succeed but the reality is he won't.The last thing the Yankees need is another 5 or 6 inning starter.Their bullpen is taxed so bad as it is.I know they say the Yankees always come back but this is a very different situation. When the Yanks used to do that they had guys like Orlando Hernandez,Wells,Clemens when they were in their primes and could pitch 7 8 or 9 innings consistently and keep the bullpen rested and dominant. This bullpen is so taxed as it is that by midseason if these starters can't hit at least 7 innings consistently alot of leads will be blown and possibly even arm injuries occuring to the pen from overuse.I think roger will have alot of quality starts but get a high number of no decisions from the bullpen blowing leads.
Even as a Sox fan I hope it does go better then I expect cause the rivalry loses intensity if one of the rivals doesn't stay competitive.Though i hate the Yankees I realize I need the Yankees to be good and to be strong every year to keep the excitement of this rivalry alive.Who would care if the Yankees were coming to town with 9 games left in the season if the Yankees were 20 games out of first place or vice versa.Yankee and Red Sox fans have a bitter rivalry but we need each other to keep that intense passion for baseball alive.
It's nice that he's a Yankee again, but he is not the savior that the Yankees need. He will provide a good stop gap to get them a big further into their season than they would have without him. They really needed him at the end of April and beginning of May when the whole pitching staff was falling apart.
I'm glad to see that the Yankees are finally putting some stock into their farm system. Phillip Hughes, Robinson Cano, Darryl Rasner. Just to name a few, it's pretty great. Makes me remember those days when Jeter and Rivera were the young studs given the task of restoring the Yankees storied past. I can only hope that this new young talent pool will bring some of the same great past along with them.
Baseball : Does the run count ?
roger clemens is good for the game. i agree he should he respect his teamates and not have all of the perks. I think some time for his son is o.k, that's why he retired, but the other things go to far.How do I get my own picture as an Avatar on Yahoo?
