Question:The Atlanta Braves have started out the 2007 season hot. They are currently 5-1 and have won against the Phillies and the NY Mets their other NL East rivals. Is it safe to say the Atlanta Braves will win the NL East and possibly challenge the rest of league for the best record in the league. They have brilliant pitching and seem like a very balanced team.

You can't judge a season on the first week, or even the first month. I agree that the Braves will end up in third behind the Mets and Phillies. The Braves had a good run but unfortunately even fielding their best teams they couldn't go the distance. The most frustrating thing about them was squandering all those division titles by choking in the post season. It's their time to step aside. We (I say 'we' since I am a Braves fan) have a good chance to win the East. Our bullpen issues from last year have been corrected. Our pitching overall has really been the strength of the team thus far. They are giving us a chance to win, which is what you ask of them.The offense needs to pick it up. Chipper Jones and Andruw Jones have a combined average of .179. That's gotta improve. But they won't struggle that bad all year. I think this team has the pieces to be a serious contender all season.

The way they have been play, probably. They usually have a good start but, sometimes crash and just become lazy. The new guys have been pulling their weight so far. The first baseman saved the game last night. If Chipper Jones plays more games then most likely they will.
