David Ortiz?
Question:I heard a rumor going around that he recenctly admitted that he took steriods. Is this true??
Answers:
He was talking about how easy it would be for someone to not know if they were taking steroids. He made the point that as a teenager he drank protein shakes and doesn't know what was in them. He said he doesn't drink them now.
As a physician, I treat some professional athletes. I can tell you that many of them take steroids -- even the little guys who don't pop the homeruns. Even soccer players. Even golfers and tennis players. I've even treated young ladies who simply wanted to fit into a swimsuit better. (They do it to get in shape faster, to heal more quickly and to build muscle.)
If any individual was discovered to have taken them, I would not be surprised. It's seemingly rampant.
As for those who suspect Ortiz simply because his homerun production improved upon arrival to Boston -- everyday play can do that for some folks. Some hitters fare better in certain parks. He apparently credits his swing coach.
It's sad that all of professional athletics are suspect. It's sad, because it's justified. As an individual, I don't care for Barry Bonds. But all I can say is that he is the best player to ever take steroids. There are many 2nd, 3rd, 4th and non-rated players taking them regularly.
Ortiz? Alex Gonzales? Schilling? Clemens? Jeter? I doubt it. But I woudn't be shocked.
No fan should start pointing fingers at other team's players. I think there's plenty of guilt to go around.

from what i read, he said that he took a shake when he returned to the Dominican Republic long time ago. He didn't know what ingredients was in the shake. He doesn't drink it anymore though.I don't think he admitted doing them on purpose...but give me a break...he was a nothing for years on the twins...and all of a sudden he's big Papi..come on

ortiz didn't do any steroids.His success was a switch in batting coaches when he went to the red sox from the twins.He always had the power just some mechanical flaws in his swing.He improved almost overnight when he had a few weeks with his new batting coach.I guess this is the thing we do now is just point the finger at steroids every time someone is successful in baseball.Might as well throw Albert Pujols name up their then since his forearms were probably thicker then your thigh by the time he was 19 years old lol.In the old days I am sure guys had some things they used to give them some sort of boost but there was never any testing for anything in that time.Ortiz is a heavy guy not cause hes built and muscular he's just overweight.Cecil fielder was like him,a big guy who can put his weight into his swing will hit the ball hard whether its weight from muscle or fat or whatever.
Steroids don't make the player,their hand eye coordination and swing mechanics are more important.look at that guy from detroit a few years ago forget his first name but his last was Sanchez.He got busted for using steroids,the guy couldn't hit double digit homeruns in a season with all the steroids in the world.Tired of seeing all the steroids accusations for successful players.You can go do a few cycles of steroids right now and you'd be hard pressed to make even a A club in the minors let alone the majors so lets not over exaggerate the steroid problem and how much success it gives a player.

No what he said it back in the day he use to drink protein drinks that he wasn't sure if they would be considered legal in todays game! He also said that he stays away from anything that might have banned substances in it!you need steroids .... for your brain, because its so small
