The key is to keep the batter off balance. The easiest pitch combination is a fast ball and change up. The reason is that they are thrown the same way and more difficult for a hitter to spot.Personally I like to throw a 4 seam fast ball first with everything. If they look at that, I may follow with another or a 2 seam fastball (so they see the movement). Hitters will tend to look for another fastball if they missed swinging at either of the fastballs.
This will be the perfect time for the change up. If you have any separation in speed, you'll have the batter way out in front of your pitch. Even if you can't throw a change, you can get the same look by throwing a 2 seam fast ball and take something off of it.
