Who is the best defensive second baseman in the AL?

Question:Mark Grudzielanek won the gold glove but Mark Ellis set a major league record for best fielding percentage for 2B (he only made 2 errors in 123 games) and he has great range. I haven't seen Grudz. play enough to know how good he is, did he really deserve the gold glove?

Very close but Grudzielanek had the better range factor, turned more double plays and had more total chances.

MG played in 9 more games, but, they played the same number of innings. In "my" grand scheme of defensive stats Grudzielanek would have barely won 3 of the 4 defensive categories while Ellis would have barely won one of four.

Grudzielanek made more - Total plays(A + PO) had the better RF and turned more DP > Ellis had the better FLD%

Then again the "Gold Glove" seldom actually does go to the best defensive player at a position. Grudzielanek probably won because he also hit .297 - Just like Derek Jeter can actually be the worst defensive "full time" shortstop in the AL and be "awarded" the Gold Glove for SS - Or Andruw Jones can be a less than average CF for 5 straight years and still win a GG for his OF play every year-

IMHO - Gold Gloves should be awarded to the player based on statistics >shocking I know<

I think Grudz deserved that gold glove. i think one of the best young 2nd basemen is dustin pedroia of the boston red sox. he was great in arizona and is looking pretty good in the field and with the bat for the sox. Brian Roberts has really emerged over the past couple of years, i belive he is one of the best snd basemen in baseball today, Robison Cano is alright and so is luis castillio so is white sox Tadahito Iguchi but i think the best 2nd baseman in the A.L is either Grudz or Roberts
