Before the Pirates went to strickly the white, black and gold colors that they are now known for, they actually had red and white uniforms. This occured back in the late 1940s and early 1950s. They made the switch to their current colors in the mid 1950s. The owner has said that this alternate uniform will be phased in slowly starting this year to provide a change of pace, not to mention providing another uniform for the public to purchase. Will the Red Sox win the World Series in 2007?
Probably because the owner wants the public to buy those jerseys and increase his profits. Those jerseys are ugly. When is Wang supposed to come back?
Boston wore the jerseys to honor the teams from the past. Pittsburgh is trying to make a fashion statement. I guess when your team has sucked for as many years as they have, you need something to look at and to fill a stadium!Jackie Robinson: Is everyone sick of hearing about him?

Some teams like to wear their "alternative" style jerseys on Friday Night home games. Notice than on any Friday Night home game in Baltimore Orioles will wear their alternate black jerseys. Personally I think the Orioles alternate jerseys look great, and I do own one myself.Understand though that "alternate jerseys" are just another way for MLB to generate money off of fans who still want to support their team, but perhaps go against the grain of the tradional team look.
