Do you think that Barry Bonds is the greatest of all time?
Question:After further analysis I think yes. I was comparing the career stats of the guys most people consider the greatest baseball players of all time (Ruth, Mays, Aaron, Ted Williams, Cobb, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Musial, etc) with Barry Bonds' stats and I arrived at the conclusion that Bonds is the best player ever. Why? For the simple fact that such a great slugger still managed to steal more than 500 bases. I'm a Yankees fan and I love Babe Ruth and all the other Yankee greatest, but I gotta give the title of greatest player of all time to Bonds! Go on MLB.com and ESPN.com and compare the stats and you'll see why.

The only way to test for HGH is a blood test, which MLB does not do as of yet. I hope that his name comes up with the guy that used to work for the Mets that just got busted and has admitted to supplying steroids to dozens of MLB players.
oo and Bonds did fail and amphetamine test last season, and blamed it on his own teammate Mark Sweeny. The story was leaked, the first positive is supposed to be just a warning behind closed doors and not announced to the media. "Under baseball's amphetamines policy, which went into effect last season, players are not publicly identified for a first positive test."

The stats speak for themselves. I take one thing into consideration though, the fact that Bonds has used performance enhancing drugs. All of the other Baseball Greats did not use anything but pure talent and skill. Bonds was given the ability to steal bases though, and his ability to make contact and call strikes and balls is amazing though. Many feel the same way I do, and many feel the way you do. If Bonds is going to be given the title of Greatest Player Ever, then I want Pete Rose in the Hall of Fame. Simple fact everyone considers in this discussion is that Bonds cheated. It is as plain as day. I do like Bonds though and think he is a great ball player, just not the best ever. For best power I'd have to give it to Hank Aaron though. Im saying that Bonds is the greatest ever because I think the level of competition is greater now.
But just for giggles look at the all time stats of Lou Gehrig and remind yourself he only played 16 years, if you add 4 or 5 more years to those stats I think he would get a lot more attention

After the steroid scandal I would have to say no. Its pretty sad though because even without the roids (yea he took some) he probably would be in the discussion for greatest of all-time. He would still have 500 maybe 600 stolen bases and over 400 home runs. Add in his RBI and Runs Scored totals he could have easily been the greatest. Now I would say no. Only if you're counting human pin cushions.BTW, his numbers this season reflect only that he's been able to tweak his cheating routine to avoid testing positive. It just took him a year to get the tweaking right.
You need to have a real look at his career stats and not just at his career totals. Those stolen bases came before he was trying to hit homers, before he started juicing to add power.

I don't see how people put Ruth as a great home run hitter, when the ballparks he was playing in were so small, like the Polo Grounds was only 256 feet down the right field line, Ebbets Field 297 down the line, Yankee Stadium initial 295 down the line, Baker Bowl 272 down the line, Forbes Field 300 down the line, Robison Field 290 down the line. Most of Ruth's home runs would be fly ball outs now of days! and if Bonds was hitting in those ballparks he would have over 1200 home runs!!
