Mark McGwire has a chance to be in front of Bonds if he was still playing... Sounds crazy, but here's why.Lineup Protection
Bonds gets walked 150+ times a year
Put him in the middle of the Cards lineup between Pujols, Edmonds, Rolen, and Duncan. You can't possibly walk him 150 times a season with a potent offense like that. I know the Cards bats are slumping this year, but these are still dangerous hitters.
McGwire never was a GOOD hitter, just a homerun hitter. Kind of like an Adam Dunn type. All or nothing. Hit .250 and slug 50 homers. Without the added responsibility of trying to get on base, and just swing for the fences. In a potent lineup i'd put McGwire ahead of Bonds.
However, Bonds is a much better all-around player, and a better pure hitter.
Here's a thought, put them on the same team and we can see which one survives the others "roid rage".
What team would you love for you favorite team to sweep in the world series?
No, because Mark was slowing with age, you have to remember when thinking of players still playing, theres only been a few that get better with age, Barry Bonds being one of them. Mark McGwire was getting worse and worse and thats why he retired, because he just wasn't the same hitter he once was, so im gonna go with no, he wouldn't be in front of Mr. BondsWho cares?? He was a cheater too!
