How do you see the Astros doing this year?
MLB players are adults. You don't hear people up in arms for addressing the other 10 million people that have drinking problems. Take responsibility for your actions and grow the f*** up. No one should have to hold these guys' hands, and tell them it's bad to drink and drive.I need a MLB team with a dominate pitcher and great hitters for use in 2k7?
I believe that they do address it more than you realize. It's not something that gets publicized, but they have more resources than those of us that aren't in professional sports.I don't think you can just assign counselors. Look at college campuses. They are always addressing students, but that did not stop my friends and me from binge drinking. People are going to make mistakes. I'd say that out of the 700-800 active players on MLB rosters, and the many coaches that are also part of the team, I'm surprised you don't hear about more DUIs. This year you have because there have been 2 high profile incidents.
Who, in your opinion, is the best bullpen reliever?
More and more clubs are now looking at this within their own organization. However, I agree with you that this needs to be looked at by MLB, what is needed is education in combination with appropriate suspension, which are combined with either the reminder courses or rehab, as is indicated on a case-by-case level.
MLB can ban alcohol in all club houses, on all buses and flights, and at any and all baseball events, but we are still talking about adults who have lives outside of the game. Realistically, MLB can't control those lives, but they can put a damper on excesses.
All of this, though, has to be negotiated between MLB and the players' association. The PA has modified it's previous stance on drug testing, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them start leaning in that direction on adding alcohol to that list.
There's more, though, and it was lowlighted over the weekend by Julio Mateo and last season by Brett Myers. Baseball also needs a combined education / suspension / therapy policy on domestic violence, which frequently but not always is tied to substance abuse.
Why are the Mets are better than the Yankees.?
MLB does address this subject as well as the teams themselves. Unfortunately we are talking about adults that have a legal right to drink if they choose to. MLB and the teams cannot babysit these men 24/7. It is too bad that someone has to die to make people aware, and you must realize that this isn't a Baseball problem, it is a society problem.More Questions & Answers...
