Got any good stories about b.j. surhoff?
My boy Josh Beckett made ALL his starts last year. Even though he struggled, look at him NOW!Worth the wait!!
I know Zach Duke of Pittsburgh didn't miss a start last year.
both smoltz and tim hudson both started 35 games last year. that is the average for starters...so i dont think it has anything to do with age, because they are both older. i think it has a lot to do with luck.
Well, with a 162 game schedule and 5-man rotations, that works out to 32 or 33 starts per pitcher. In 2006, a total of 54 pitchers made at least 32 starts. Since there are 30 teams, that would mean there were about 150 starting pitchers at the beginning of the season, and 320 pitchers made at least one start sometime during the year.
Educated guess... Younger pitchers breakdown more often then older pitchers. The older ones have figured out HOW to pitch. Look at Greg Maddux, always takes the ball. Clemens after he signed always took the ball. But there are exceptions. But usually the old guys that breakdown were always injury prone but maybe you should ask Kerry Wood or Mark Pryor...
