Baseball Uniforms...Why do some teams have the names on the back of the uniform and some don't?
Question:Example - the yankees don't have a their names on the back. The dodgers didn't last year but this year they do. Who decides this? Thanks.
Answers:
I would have to say in my opinion names on jerseys are for part time fans who don't really know their team. I could see if that the road jerseys had them for the home fans who werent that familiar with out of town players. However, if you are at home and complain about not knowing your team's players because of lack of a name on the back then you are not the type of fan that the home team ownership should listen to.
Pure tradition. The teams decide.
When they first started having player numbers the number you wore was the number you hit in the lineup. Babe Ruth hit third and was #3...Lou Gehrig hit fourth and was #4, etc.

common since is all we need here...tradition plain and simple, why are you asking questions like this?tradition. and the owner decides the dodgers owner decided after 2004 but fan critizism made him change it this year.
Yeah the Cubs had only numbers last season now they have names I heard that marketing had to do something with it not a team's desicon still I like baseball is trying to make tradition and everything but I kind of like the names better.
