Isn't it funny that the Yankees spend so much money and still need help?
Question:They spend nearly $200 million on their team, about $50 million more than any other team in the league, and then they go out and pay Clemens around $25 million (salary + lux tax) to come and pitch for them starting in JUNE.
Personally I think it's pathetic. Their bullpen is still going to be burnt out by late summer and who knows how Wang, Mussina, and Pettite are going to hold up, along with Clemens. Their health and stamina are ALL question marks. I don't see the Yankees getting anywhere in the playoffs once again, if they even get there.

The Yankees are in trouble. They have all but burnt out their farm system by bringing the young guys into the majors too early and they have spent so much money since Torre has been there starting around 96 and to compensate for bad purchases like Randy Johnson or Aaron Boone they have to bring Pettite back and had to spend a lot of money to get A-Rod. The Yankees try to buy baseball but they still cant win. The bullpen is weak and will have three guys pitch in at least 135+ games. They now have 3 great starters but the Red Sox have 3 1/2 with a much better bullpen, Yankees will not make the playoffs and a lot of people are going to be fired.Who will win the NL Cy Young this year?!?
i read that even if they make it to the world series and win it all, they barely break even. i'd hate to see them have a firesale like the marlins did after their world series win, but, it may have to go that way to make it profitable and not seen as hired hands that don't pay off.Which lineup has the most offensive potential but isn't living up to it?

they have to spend to compete with the red sox. honestly they signed a major roider to a huge deal that pays him 25.2M this yr, overpayed derek Jeter by about 7M per year, and have pitchers that don't pitch for them. Wang was 2nd in Cy Young voting last year.This is just another reason why there should be a salary cap in baseball. Granted there have been teams with a small payroll that have won the world series, but this kind of spending is pathetic.

Typical Yankee-hater trash from someone who is trying to convince himself that they aren't going to be be in first by July. Wang is 27, he will hold up just fine, it was his hamstring, not his arm that was the problem. The others are health question marks, but they won't all go down at once again. Also we have 20-year old Phil Hughes coming back in a month. As long as you are going to mention the Yankees question marks, why don't you mention the team ahead of them? Schilling is 40, as is Wakefield. Dice-K, is 3-2, but has pitched two good games out of his starts and has an ERA of over 5.00 and in his "wins" over the Yankees this year, allowed the Yankees "only" 10 runs in 13 innings, lucking into 2 wins. And let's not forget Papelbon who planned on starting to save the wear of pitching so many games as a closer. Now he's back in the bullpen. I'll bet you right now he ends up on the D.L. at some point.
