Why is money so important to you people?
Question:I always hear people complain about the Yankee payroll. Why is this even a factor? Here is the deal. George has said many times, "The sole mission of this team is to win championships." No, we don't win every year, but we have won 26 World Series. Who's next? St. Louis with 10?
George gives us the best chance he can every year to win. He puts his money where his mouth is. He wants the fans to be happy, and he will be happy, because at heart he's a fan.
The difference between a Yankee fan and everyone else is we leave each game with hope for the next, knowing the Boss will do what it takes. All you complainers leave the game, hop in the 1983 Oldsmobile Omega and head home to the doublewide, while your owner is spending his money on hotels, hookers and Hennessy.
You guys and your moral questions crack me up. Have the Yankees ruined baseball? Right... crap in one hand and fill the other one with morals and see which one fills up first.

The simple answer is a lot of people find it unfair. There are teams in smaller markets who can't spend the money that the yankees do.keyword is can't.Is it fair that because they are in a larger media market, they can outbid all the other teams on good players? Im not sure. But thats what the issue is

If one team can buy up all the talent in the league there is not competition and no one will watch, which is why the Yankees haven't won and MLB attendance/TV ratings have gone up in the last few years. (credit the revenue sharing)Besides, look at the Brewers, you don't need a huge payroll to win. I would rather watch young players develop then just go offer huge contacts to all the big name players. And honestly, what fun is it to know your team is going to win? It is more interesting to see them have to work for it.

New York Teams usually have a strong fan base. In the 70s and 80s, New York was considered a pit. People move out of New York for better lives. Therefore, everywhere you go there are usually people who grew up in New York. They support New York teams even when they moved out of state. Add that to the phenomenon of bandwagoning, Steinbrehnner has turned Yankees into another phenomenon. With imports from Japan, Cuba, China, he has launched his own TV station and ripped huge profits off international royalties.Take me home.. country road to the place I grew up..
