Was Sandy Koufax the most dominating pitcher of all time?
Question:For a five year span Sandy Koufax had the lowest E.R.A in baseball for all those five years also he won the pitching triple-crown(E.R.A,strikeouts, and wins) 3 times.he had the single season strikeout record before nolan ryan broke it with one. in four straight years he had a no-hitter and one was a perfect game. Vin Scully once said every time Sandy Koufax took the mound he thought he will throw a no-hitter. After yogi berra saw him in the world series he said "I can see how he (Sandy Koufax) won twenty-five games. What I don't understand is how he lost five." he also average over 20 complete games a year. if he hadn't gotten injured who knows how many records he could of had.

Why does the home plate umpire turn his back to the pitcher when he bends over to clean the plate?
I think he was probaly the most dominating left hander over a 5 year period. His numbers in that period are remarkable. No other pitcher ever had a 5 years like he did in relative terms that is.A pitcher like Mathewson had a great 5 years too,but then again, there were a lot of pitchers in that same time that had similar numbers. But if Matty pitched in the 60s,I dont know if his number would be as good as Koufax.Do batting cages really help in basball?
Walter Johnson was probably the most dominate because not only did he throw BB's he had control too. You could also make a case for Sandy Koufax, Bob Gibson, or even Roger Clemens as wellI have a serious problem in baseball.?
Depends on how you qualify the question. Over the course of one season, Bob Gibson was so dominant that MLB changes the rules and lowered the mound. Koufax had a 5-year stretch that was incredible. Over the course of an entire career, Koufax fades and you start looking at Cy Youn, Walter Johnson and the like. What type of training should i do during the days I'm not pitching?
Pitchers have good and bad days.On a good day, nobody could top
Steve Carlton.
I remember Reggie Jackson walking
away, just shaking his head in a mid
70's All Star game.

Statistically he was not the best pitcher of all time. Ed Walsh smoked him. Addie Joss I think would be a little better. Al Spading had 54 wins and only 5 losses with an Era of 1.59. Even taking into account the difference of the ''Dead Ball Era'' the pitchers of old still smoked him. And modern pitchers such as Ryan, Clemmens, Johnson, Carlton, Gibson, only pal in comparison due to ERA, which has more to due with the team the played on, than that pitchers ability. As you are well aware of the stadiums are shorter these days, and supposedly the use of steroids has caused more HR's, which I disagree with. M. Brown was awesome as well as J Ward, you could also mention... W. Johnson, G. Alexander, C. Mathewson, C. Young, E. Plank. Just because these guys played with a different baseball and over 100 years ago, their records still shine brightly. Mathmatically if you average all the modern pitchers and average all of the Dead Ball Era pitchers... come up with a median ERA, etc. These men of old still smoke modern pitchers... And Steve Carlton is my personal favorite.
Does anyone know where I can find audio from Susan Waldman announcing Clemens return to the Yankees?
Koufax was the man those five years it's true. But not the most dominating stats for all "5-year" periods. And for the record for Darla N. - if baseball had not raised the mound the year before, Gibson would not have had that great ERA of 1.12. The mound was lowered the next year to the regular distance again. Besides, Gibson's 1.12 is third best lowest on the all-time yearly list. Dutch Leonard is first with a 0.99.More Questions & Answers...
