Wood scheduled to throw lightly Updated 4/27/07Wood, Kerry SP CHC
News: RHP Kerry Wood (shoulder tendinitis) is scheduled to start light throwing by the weekend. There is no timetable for the starter-turned-reliever's return. Analysis: Wood will return as a middle reliever, but if he's healthy, it wouldn't/shouldn't take long for him to be a candidate for saves. The first part of that equation is the real concern, his ability to get and stay healthy. Track his progress in the coming weeks.

Wood drops in to say 'Hi' Updated 4/22/07
Wood, Kerry SP CHC
News: According to MLB.com, injured Cubs RP Kerry Wood (shoulder) dropped in before Saturday's game against the Cardinals for a quick hello with his teammates. Wood has been on the DL all season with tendinitis in his right shoulder. The last time he threw was during a spring training game on March 25. Wood hopes to start throwing during the week of April 23-29. "What I've been told is that it's a severe case of tendinitis," Wood said. "The way they explained it to me was that (with) the work I did this offseason, when I was strengthening the shoulder, the muscles got stronger than they've ever been. I started throwing and I'm throwing good and I pump it up a little bit, and they said, 'You put so much stress on the tendons; they're not used to having that much stress.'" Analysis: It is a good sign that Wood will resume throwing in the near future, but the team has still not set a timetable for his return. Remember, Wood is no longer a starter and when he does return, he is headed to a role in middle relief. Continue to keep the oft-injured pitcher reserved in Fantasy leagues.

News: The Cubs' other often-injured right-hander Kerry Wood, who started the season on the disabled list, visited Dr. Dave Altchek, an orthopedic specialist with the New York Mets. Wood was told he has tendinitis but does not need surgery, general manager Jim Hendry said. Analysis: Wood, who chose over the offseason to rehab a partially torn rotator cuff, has been sent back to Arizona. Hendry said the Cubs' hope is to get Wood's shoulder pain free, so he can resume throwing as soon as possible. Wood threw 18 pitches in his last spring training outing out of the bullpen March 25. His arm felt weak when he left that game and the shoulder stiffened up more than usual the next day. Wood will serve as a middle reliever out of the bullpen with a chance at closing if he stays healthy and Ryan Dempster falters.
Wood goes on the disabled list Updated 4/1/07

News: According to MLB.com, the Cubs placed RP Kerry Wood on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis. Analysis: Is anyone surprised that Wood is starting any year on the DL? It looks as though this injury could keep Wood out for a good chunk of April. Put him inactive lists in Fantasy leagues until the Cubs clear him to return. He is now just a middle reliever, so throw any thoughts away of him being a starter this year.
