How do you throw an effective sinker?
Question:Hello, Im a 16 year old pitcher and Im working on learning a Sinker. I currently throw a 4-seam FB, Curve, Circle Change, and slider effectively and I think the sinker will really help me induce a ground ball.

Does anybody know anything about college baseball prospect Andrew Brackman and is he a top ten pick?
A sinker is actually the same thing as a 2-Seam Fastball. The pitch is often called a sinker when it drops and a 2-Seam when it runs, but they're actually the same pitch. The difference comes from who's throwing it. Certain pitcher's delivery or arm slots cause the it to drop, while others cause it to run.Brandon Webb and Roy Oswalt are perfect examples. Watch video of Webb pitching and you'll see his 2-Seam/Sinker have a pretty dramatic dip at the end (which is why many call his a sinker), where the same pitch from Oswalt runs in at right handed batters (which is why his is still refered to as a 2-seam).
Now that that's taken care of, how to throw it.
A 2-Seam/Sinker is thrown with index and middle fingers along and over the narrow seams, thumb underneath on the horseshoe seam. To get more sink than running action, you have to throw it hard and low in the zone with a good downward angle (if you get under the ball at release, it won't sink). Some pitchers move one or both fingers slightly inward from the seams to get more sinking action. One version, which some people call the "Little League Sinker," actually has the fingers together in the middle of the smooth cover between the narrow seams. This pitch usually drops sharply but is slow and difficult to control. If you have good arm action, the basic 2-seam grip should give you all the sink you need. Just a few of inches of sink on a 2-seamer will yield many ground balls. Experiment with variations on the basic 2-seam fastball grip and see what works for you.
Here's a good site that will show you the 2-Seam as well as several other pitches.

you could try a split finger fastball as well.when I ptiche I used only 3 pitches fastball , change-up and curve.
I f you work at mastering those three you will do just fine...if you can add to that it is good too.
