Who was the greatest baseball player never to win a World Series?
1979. 2nd game of the season at Milwaukee County Stadium. The Brewers hit back to back Grand Slams that game vs. the Red Sox.I was sitting in the LF Bleachers in the 392 Power alley section when Cecil Cooper hit the 2nd one grand salami (Don Money's was the 1st to right field--rather interesting, Money being a righty and Coop a lefty and both opposite field shots).
Anyway, I thought, "Hmmmm, that's gonna land to the left of me". It was a very cold day, so the bleachers were pretty sparse, and I put down my beer and started running over to where it might be coming down.
.just about there, and I stepped on some empty Old Style longneck some guy had snuck in and left lying on the ground and when I stepped on it I did a flying dropkick. I saw the ball land about 5 feet in fron of my feet as they were heading up in the air. It bounced and some little kid got it around 10 rows up.
I landed on a bleacher and really hurt my butt and my left elbow...as I was walking back to my buddies rubbing my butt, they were all laughing and pointing up at the new (for then) state of the art scoreboard.
I turned and saw the end of the homerun -- compete with me doing a "Charlie Brown misses kicking Lucy's football" routine. That hurt almost as bad as my throbbing ***...although I must admit I've laughed about it from that day on.
Totally true story. Baseball. Gotta Love it!!
