Who hit the first homerun of the 2007 MLB season?
the best way to be a better catcher is to do 2 things remember and build up your arm strength. you want to remember what the hitters like and dislike, if John likes to swing at ball inside and wont look at anything out side then you know where you have to have your pitcher throw the ball. a catcher is only as good as the games he calls and the pitchers he handles. I remember watching Bob Boone call games for the Phillies in the 70 and 80's and just watching him locate his mitt to get Dave Parker to swing was awesomeCan someone give me a list of decent to good left-handed relief pitchers?
The best advice for playing catcher is to keep your head in the game and always know the situation. KNow what base the runners are on. Know how fast they are ( if possible). I catch and I practice making that throw to second from my knees when warming up before the game. IF you have time to jump and throw it that is better. Just remember you are throwing to the base and not the glove. For one, a lot of squats and jogging will do your legs some good for the rigors of working out of the crouch all day. It'll also make your legs stronger for the long throw down to second base.
Also, a lot of long-tossing will do your arm plenty of good. It builds armstrength without the risk of injury. Start tossing, just playing catch from 60 feet, the back up to 90 once you're loose, and toss a little, then go about 100-120 and just play catch at that distance. It will also get you accustomed to the length of the throw from home to second (roughly 121 feet).
Lastly, for practice at blocking balls, I dunno if you play any roller hockey or whatnot, but goaltending is -GREAT- for practicing your blocking and adjustment.
In the absence of that as an option, just gear up and get a friend to throw balls in the dirt to you. And just practice repeatedly, keeping that thing in front of you. You'll get nicked up from it, but that's the life of a catcher.
What is your favorite baseball movie and what is your favorite team?
To start off catching takes 100 percent focus and hustle. Catcher in my opinion is the most important position on the field. The catcher must block every pitch even bad ones in order to keep people from advancing. Throwing people out trying to steal 2nd takes a quick strong throw that must be thrown from on a overtop delivery. Never ever sidearm. Practice getting the ball from out your glove to hand quick. once the ball is in your hand bring your arm up all the way up( dont rear back) and snap your arm down hard to get a hard throw. there is more too it but i would suggest u practice because practice is throw people out. Or as I like to say break it off in their ***.More Questions & Answers...
