Absolutely not.First, he's still on the lifetime suspension list, and no one on that list is allowed to be on a HOF ballot. He's had the opportunity since 1990 to apply to have that suspension lifted, and he hasn't bothered to do so. That ought to be a major clue for you that at some level, he agrees with the need for that suspension.
He was suspended because, whether you like it or not, whether you want to believe it or not, there was plenty of evidence that he had broken the rule against gambling, the rule that has been a part of baseball since 1920 (21?), the rule that is posted in every clubhouse on a permanent basis, the rule that he had no excuse to not know. Further, the extent to which he was gambling is something that almost certainly put him in contact with individuals who are less than savoury themselves, and who would have no problem forgiving a debt in return for, say, a thrown game.
What's that you say? No evidence that the Reds ever threw a game when Rose managed? When was the last time that you listened to a post game call-in show? When was the last time that you heard a fan demand to know why this runner didn't attempt a steal here, or why did the manager not order a bunt there, or the manager should have done this, that or the other? How does a fan know if this have been signaled or not? How does the fan know the signals? Are you beginning to see now just how easy it is for a manager to intentionally manage to a loss? And please, please, don't insult my intelligence by saying that Rose said he never did that. By very definition, Pete Rose is also a liar.
Bit you don't have to bet on or against your team to break the rules. Further, Rose was in a position to know, through his legitimate contacts within baseball (friends, former teammates, his own players with friends on other teams, etc). which players on other teams might be or might not be available on any given day. A compulsive gambler, such as Rose, will use and abuse that information, will use and abuse every single snippet of information, in order to influence their bet. Since Rose was in a position to have information not available to you and I, this was the equivalent of insider trading. And you know full well just how quickly the SEC, etc will throw someone in jail for that. If you don't, ask Martha Stewart, another person who ought to have known better (she used to be a broker on Wall Street)..
Rose will not be voted in by the representatives of the BBWAA. And since he has no support among his peers, he won't be voted in by the Veterans Committe either.
Pete Rose made his own bed, and it's high time that people remembed that and let him lie in it.

The HOF will have pictures and stories about how great a ball player he was, and then there will be picture and stories on why he is not a "Hall of Famer", but people will always know about Pete Rose. He just wont be in the wing where all of the other hall of famers will be.Pete Rose was a great ball player, but a pathetic person. No. I think gambling is the one thing baseball cannot tolerate. When you do steroids, and I am sure there are a few guys who are in the Hall right now who did drugs, and a few more will get in, you are really only cheating yourself. Gambling cheats the whole game, even if it is one your team. Plus, it doesn't seem like Rose really has any remorse for his behavior.just to get it out of the way the answer is no
Now to everyone else who likes to judge Pete Rose, yes he bet on the Reds, there is proof of that. Where is the proof that he bet against the reds? If there was proof don't you think the owner of the reds would have taken some kind of action, it is a million dollar industry. So he bet on baseball, prove that somebody was harmed by his action. The owner of the team apparently didn't feel that way. The people of Cincinnati don't feel that way. I was at opening day and when they announced that he was in attendance he got a standing ovation! Players take steroids and receive their joke of a punishment for an act that CERTAINLY affects the outcome of games. While it is POSSIBLE that Rose bet against the reds if it was conclusive then this issue would not continue to be debated. There is more evidence that Barry Bonds has taken steroids than Rose bet against the reds. There will be players in the hall that cheated their way to greatness while there is a man that embodied hard work and HUSTLE who won't.
