Other than Babe Ruth who do you think was the greatest player of the 20th century and why?

A-Rod on steroids!!!?

I don't think that Babe Ruth was the best on his team. Lou Gehrig was an awesome ball player. He had 148 less hits than Ruth in 5 less seasons. Gehrig played 17 seasons with 493 homers and 2721 hits. At the 17 year point, Ruth had 565 homers, but only 2447 hits. Gehrig had a .991 overall fielding percentage to Ruth's .968. So, I say Lou Gehrig.

What center fielder earned a total salary of $704,769 in 13 years with the Yankees?

Wayne Gretzky without a doubt. Check out the links. Need I say more on "The Great One".

idk...maybe Lou Gehrig or Yogi Berra.im not sure b/c there was so many great players of the 20th century its hard to choose!! GO YANKEES!

Oh my god! Joe Buck talking about Baseball instead of what celeb is at the game or what movie he saw?

It's hard to say that someone was "the greatest player" as different players are good at different things. Ted Williams was probably the best hitter, last person with a .400 season average. All around, I'd probably say Willie Mays. Good hitter, great fielder and good base runner. But you could put up some real good arguments for a half dozen or so other players as well. And why leave out pitchers. Some of them were the reasons their teams won the series and were just as valuable as any other player on the team if not more. Take the Braves when they were in Boston. They weren't given a chance against the Yankees in the World Series. They had the two best pitchers, Spahn and Sain but not much else. "Spahn and Sain then pray for rain then Spahn and Sain again" was the cry by a Boston sports writer and as luck would have it, it happened. Boston swept the series 4 games to none. Many players were great but to pick any one as "the Greatest" is a bit much.

Why does Jonathan Papelbon look like a constipated seven year old when he pitches?

nolan ryan with his strikeouts no hitters and wins

Whos going to win the World Series?

for baseball, player. i would say Hank Aaron. Just look at the stats. Best overall person Jackie Robinson. Most fun Tony Gweyn.

football, Brett Favre

basketball, MJ

Hockey, Gretzky and Yzerman

Any tips on how to get My Yahoo to show the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim scores on their front page?

Willie Mays, who I think was better than Ruth and Hank Aaron. Mays was a tremendous defensive center fielder- the catch in the 1954 World Series being just one of several tremendous catches he made. Plus, he stole a lot of bases early in his career.

Do you believe... in the Brewers?

Lou Gehrig was better than Ruth. I think he was because he was "Biscuit Pants" "The Iron Horse" they don't give him those nicknames for nothing. He shook baseball in the world! In other words, he ruled it~!

What is the best kind of softball/baseball glove?

Mickey Mantle. He was a great hitter. He was a great all around player.

Wait wait whos last in the A.L. East right now?

Basketball= Michael Jordan

Football= Walter Payton or Barry Sanders

Hockey= Martin Broder

Who did hank aaron hit his last homerun off of ?

Joe Dimaggio. The total package as a ball player.

Topps 2003 Brandon Wood/Chad Billingsley error card?

Wrap your brain around my source here:

Now if you believe in this, (I do. Imagine if there were no Hispanics, Asians, or blacks playing baseball how many great players would never play. This would make the pool of players smaller allowing an above average player to stand out greater from the norm.) than could anyone who played in the 'desd ball' era even compare with the prosposed hit to stats?

(All negatives are approximate by looking at that hard to read final chart)

Babe Ruth -19%
Roger Hornsby -23%
Willie Mays -12%
Ty Cobb -23%
Walter Johnson -22%
Hank Aaron -11%
Lou Gehrig -18%
ETC.

If you take away from their totals across the board does that make Tony Gwynn with .338 the all-time batting champion, Barry Bonds with 734 HR to all-time Home Run leader, and someone like Greg Maddox, or Roger Clemens the best pitcher ever? IMHO, taking 10-20% away from somebody's stats takes them from all-time great status to all-star status.

So in light of this info that makes great sense to me, my choices are:

#1 hitter Barry Bonds
#1 pitcher Roger Clemens

After about a week of baseball what do you think?

Though he may not have been the most likeable player, I would have to say Ty Cobb. In terms of the art of hitting, he was second to none.

If you are a New York Mets fan answer this please!!?

ty cobb batted 400 like 8 times. granted he was a dick, but not many people could play like him. if i had to choose one other person to be on that level it would have to be charlie hustle.

DId any one meet a famous baseball player?

Barry Bonds before the roids.

Pre-2000
3 time MVP
8 time Gold Glove winner

*Absolutely amazing player who cheapened his career with use of steroids
