Did the Texas Rangers make a mistake in signing Eric Gagne?

Ted Williams

Underhand pitching help?

The magnificient Ted Williams. The last man to have a .400 season average. He was at .401 with one game to go. His manager and team mates urged him to sit out the final game to preserve the average. Instead he played and went 4 for 4. Probably the greatest pure hitter I ever saw. If his career hadn't been interrupted by service during WWII and again during the Korean war his records would have been even better. The Boston press always villified him for not hitting to all fields. The other teams put what they called the Williams shift together and vacated left field when he was up. With three outfielders between straight away center and the right field line, he still managed a high .300 lifetime average. One ump at the time said, "If Ted doesn't swing it's a ball".

Whos number 9 on the cubs?

I want a singles hitter or a guy that walks a lot . I DO NOT want to see a slugger come to bat in that position. Give me Keith Hernandez for this one. To me, Keith Hernandez was one of the best two strike hitters I've ever seen play.

Is there any kind of widget that shows certain sports players?

Derek Jeter-usually gets the clutch hits.

Softball practicing tips for catchers?

Ted Williams or Pete Rose

Mets One hitter?

Barry Bonds, Albert Pujols or Luis Gonzalez. Barry would be my top choice. However I will never forget the clutch hit that Luis Gonzalez had against the Yankees to help Arizona win the World Series.

I pick Barry Bonds because he is the only player who I know to have drawn an intentional walk with the bases loaded. The guy is that respected. In a tied game with the bases loaded you would be forced to pitch to him and thats trouble for the pitcher.

Where can I find the Philadelphia Phillies record in the month of April?

Does anyone other than Jackie Robinson deserve a day of respect by the baseball community?

This may sound crazy but Todd Helton.
He has one of the best averages in baseball history with men on base in scoring position .352

How many more homers does barry bonds have to catch hank arron?

Since you ask any player past or present. To me it's pretty easy, Babe Ruth. It doesn't get much more clutch than that guy was.

However as an Orioles fan, if I had to pick an Orioles player from any time, past or present. It would be Eddie Murray. And not simply because he's a hall of famer, but because of his two homeruns that he hit on the road against the Phillies in game 5 of the world series. Murray in that game alone was a big part of the reason offensively that the Orioles won the series in 5 games.

How many times have you muted Jon Miller tonight?

The best big game, clutch hitter I have seen in 50+ years of watching baseball is George Brett. The bigger the game the tougher the situation the better he hit. You need a single he hit a single you need a HR he hit a HR. And, he did it off the best of the best - 3HR in one ALCS game against Catfish Hunter - 2 game winning HR's off Goose Gossage in the ALCS -

4 for 4 with 2HR's in game three of the 85 ALCS with the Royals down 2 games to Toronto, in the same game Brett also made one of the best defensive plays I have ever seen from a third baseman, >backhanding a smash over the 3B bag, 15 feet behind the bag and crossing into foul territory Brett threw across his body to throw the runner out at the plate<

George Brett - 21 seasons
Lifetime - BA-305 OB%-369 SLG-487 H-3154
6 - ALCS - BA-340 OB%-400 SLG-728
2 - WS - BA-373 OB%439 SLG-529

Stan Musial is my all time favorite player, and Ted Williams is the best hitter I have ever seen, but George Brett is the best clutch hitter.

A great clutch hitter is great all the time in big situations. I hate(not really) to bust the bubble of all those Reggie Jackson fans but in 11 ALCS series Jackson hit .227 with and OB% of .298 & SLG of .380 >He didn't do a whole lot to get his teams into the WS!

I want to wear a black armband when Bonds breaks the record. Any idea where I could find one?

I'll say David Ortiz (no, I'm not a Red Sox fan). Last year, it seemed like every time I turned around, Ortiz was jacking a late-inning long ball to win a game.

Oakland A's ~ I want to seem like I know baseball...any stats?

Ty Cobb

I dont know anything about baseball, But does any one think that Roger Clemens is not worth $28mil?

I would want a pure hitter like Wade Boggs or Ichiro Suzuki. That way, they'd get contact to either get on base or bring in the winning run if there are men already on base. No need for flashiness as long as that run crosses the plate.

Youth baseball?

In his prime...Gates Brown.

When can players slide to 1st base?

That's easy, you pick the guy who is known for the clutch hit, has many world series and playoff records already with many years to go, and plain gets it done with the games on the line:

Derek Jeter

Im looking for a new baseball bat.?

As I read down the list of names given by people, while all good I just knew my guy wasn't ever going to be mentioned. Then I got to Cardsfan55's post and he nailed it.George Brett.

Sparky Anderson once stated that he'd never let George Brett beat him, even if it meant walking him with the bases loaded and up only a run because at least they'd have a chance. Of course that scenerio never occurred, but you should get the point. Brett was just that deadly when the game was on the line.

Brett also had a big game in Game 7 of the 1985 WS and had the game tying hit in the deciding game 5 of an ALCS only to see Chris Chambliss get his homer. He also had the series clinching homerun in the 1980 ALCS. The list goes on and on with Brett.

What do you hope happens to Barry Bonds this season ?

The guy I want is Paul Molitor he is a guy that would make contact have a good chance of getting on base. Not just a singles hitter he has a little pop in his bat and was a good doubles and triple hitter. On top of that in his prime this guy was stealing 40 to 30 bases.

Should alcohol be ban from games?

Two people come to mind. The first one hit .404 in 2 World Series, and got at least 1 hit in all 14 games he played in. The second hit the only walk-off Game 7 home run.
Roberto Clemente or Bill Mazeroski.

Who wins the ALCS? Red Sox or White Sox?

PETE ROSE THAT WAS CLUTCH YOU CAN BET ON THAT
