Who should I support, the Mets or the Yankees? To the most persuasive argument go the spoils ;)?
Question:I'm a 14 year old Australian, and I've taken a keen interest in baseball, but I need a team to genuinely support. I absolutely love New York, so it boils down to the Mets or Yankees. I love the Yankees history, but the Mets are an extremely likable team as well. Who should I support, and why?

hey go with your gut, there are good things and bad things about both teams,do this,
when you watch a game, both mets and yankees, who do you feel puts on a better game professionally wise,
plus, does your heart race when the mets score or when the yankees score, then you know who.
if the result is both, well, then you need to think about the history of both teams, the underdog mets or the immortal yankees

If you want to route for one of the most overpompous, overpaid, overpopularized teams in all sports, route for the Yankees. But if you want to route for a real team, go for the Mets. I think you should go with the Mets, they have a very exciting team, and as far as NY baseball is concerned, all though the Mets have their share of die-hard fans, it seems like as far as the sports media here goes, they usually seem to play second fiddle to the Yankees.None-the-less the Mets as a talented team are going to fight hard prove that it's that they are the best team in baseball to ALL NY fans, and all baseball fans.
I say if you like the underdog team in NY go with the Mets.

You should support the Yankees. The Mets fans are filled with hate and jealousy, just read their answers and see how rude they are. The Mets were created because New York needed a National League team because they lost the Giants and Dodgers. The Mets would not exist otherwise.
Mets fans seem to forget that they are managed by Willie Randolph, who spend over 20 years as a Yankee player and coach. He brought class and respect to the Mets, two qualities that he had with the Yankees. The Mets may be likable as you say, but that is due to the fact that Randolph brought the Yankee way to that team.
Root for the Yankees. They have history, many of the greatest players in major league history, and are the most recognized team in the country. Fans of other teams hate them because their teams do not possess those things. The Yankees have the history and tradition, the Mets don't, and their fans hate that. Read the baseball questions on sports1234.com and you will see that I am right. And don't let the argument "the Yankees buy tons of stars". The Mets do as well, as they have bought players like Carlos Beltran, Pedro Martinez, and Tom Glavine to the Mets for big bucks. They have almost as much money as the Yankees, don't let them fool you with that lame argument.

its quite simple, if you want to be a frontrunner who, yes, will root for a team which will win many world series, go top the yankees.
but if you want to not take things for granted, be a mets fan.

Well, if you're into baseball history choose the Yankees. They have some of the best players ever in the Hall of Fame such as Babe Ruth, Lou Gerhig, Mickey Mantle, and Yogi Berra. Although, the Mets have a good bunch of historical players such as Tom Seaver, Casey Stengle, Gil Hodges, Mike Piazza, and Darryl Strawberry. The Yankees have 26 World Series Championships and the Mets have 2. Currently, however, the Mets have the better team. They have David Wright, Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran, Billy Wagner, and Carlos Delgado. The Yankees have Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Bobby Abreu, Mariano Rivera, and Jason Giambi. I would have to say the mets. I say this becuase of the players and the chemistry that the mets carry. The mets have a lot of young talent who play the game like no others. The yankees have a lot of talent, but many of them are on the end of their careers. So if you started cheering for the Mets, then you will be able to watch the same players for years and watch them turn into stars. I also have to say that the mets becuase of one man, and thats Jose Reyes. I would choose the Mets because the Yankees don't play for love the play for money. And if you go to a Yankee vs Red Sox game prepare to get beaten up. I am a Red Sox fan my great grandparents were fans and my grandparents and my parents so I kind of have to. When every one was cheering for the Yankees because they were always winning but my family they only one on the block in the country in Connecticut was cheering for the Red Sox. You should definitley go with the Yankees! they are a better team in general and have many great and powerful players. There's Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera, Jason Giambi, Robinson Cano, Johnny Damon, Hideki Masui, Mike Mussina, Melky Cabrera and many more. Their stadium is by far the most beautiful and their fans are the best. Their games are always intense and your heart will race when they score runs and strike out batters. Yankees-Have the highest payroll, yet still cant win the W.S.
Their fans are very fairweather type- they come out only when the team is winning, and dog on their players when they do bad. ( a la A-rod).
Mets-
Have players who play the game right ( Lo Duca, Alou, Beltran).
Not the highest payroll ( in the top 5) yet still put up a winning record.
The mets fans are very devote, sticking with their team through thick and thin.
The mets also play the best kind of baseball- NL small ball, bunting guys over, pinch hitting/running etc etc.
