MLB rule on visiting pitcher's mound (pre 1960's)?

Question:Presently the manager can only visit the pitcher's mound once per inning without taking out the pitcher (i.e. the pitcher must be removed on the 2nd visit in any inning).

Can anyone tell me if the rule used to be that the manager could only visit the mound once per GAME and on the 2nd trip to the mound in the GAME the pitcher had to be removed? I seem to remember this back in the 1950's.

Thanks.

Managers or a combination of coaches and managers visits to the mound in one inning were limited beginning in the 1967 season.
