Can a Baseball bench coach be placed in a game as a Starter or a pinch hitter?

Sure wish that you had said a little more concerning how old you are, what pitches you already throw, and what type of pitcher you seem to be - power vs. control.

Let me be totally honest here, and say that there are way too many pitchers who think that they have to be strong enough to throw the ball through a brick wall, with the control of a surgeon and half a dozen pitches in their arsenal. This is not the case.

Just like pretty girls who are pretty for different reasons, pitchers are effective pitchers for the same reason. There are, however, certain traits that all successful pitchers have in varying degrees. Each has to have the ability to change speeds so the hitter is unable to establish any type of timing. Each also must be able to locate the pitch effectively so the hitter is unable to hit the ball solidly. The better control a pitcher has, the more successful he is; it is common sense. And the third weapon in a pitcher's arsenal is what type of movement he can get on the ball. Any pitch that changes direction in flight that complicates the process of putting good wood (or metal) on the ball has a good chance of being successful.

Pitching is that simple. You notice that I didn't mention anything concerning exceptional velocity because, though it's nice, isn't absolutely necessary to success. Ask all of the hitters who have faced the likes of Tim Wakefield or Greg Maddux. Now about you.

Unless you are a one pitch wonder like Mariano RIvera or a knuckleball pitcher who throws in an occasional medium-speed fastball or curve, you need to be able to do just what I said: Change speeds, location, and movement. You therefore need some time of fastball - either a four or two seamer, a breaking pitch like a curve, slurve, or slider (I prefer a slider because it is not as easily distinguished by the hitter from the fastball), then an off speed pitch like a splitter or straight change.

Since I have no idea what you throw, how you throw, etc., all I can suggest is something that is different from the pitches which you already throw, that you can control consistently, and gives the hitters a look that is different enough to deceive them. A couple good examples are sliders and good splitters which, if thrown properly, absolutely tear hitters up. Do you throw either? If not, learn, because they can truly help lower the ol' E.R.A.

Wish I could help more, but I just don't know enough to really give too much advice.

Is a baseball worth anything if it is signed to you personally?

A Sinker.
Brandon Webb has turned it into a very effective pitch that is sort of like a curveball but with more velocity. If you have a good change-up and a high-velocity fastball, this pitch is unhittable. You can learn how to throw it probably if just search "how to throw a sinker" on Google. Maybe Wikipedia? Or search for fundamental baseball web sites.

Do you think The San Diego Padres will win the division ?

I checked out Jessica's idea... not bad. Cool looking chicks. But I don't ride bikes. So, a "new" pitch? Nothing old? That's lets out the Spitter, Shine ball, Emery ball, Nail file ball, Sandpaper ball, Icepick ball, Razorblade ball and the Sidewinder.
A friend came up with what he called a "slip" pitch. You rest the ball one third nestled beneith the finger and thumb with the seams on the bottom. The delivery is comparable to throwing a fast ball but it will break at a downward motion.
If you are a right-handed pitcher and facing a right-handed batter, you aim for the shoulder and once mastered, the ball will break downward over the plate.

Is there any team worse than the Royals this year? Or are the Royals living up to the hype all year?

Having a strange pitch may work for a short while, but after a while hitters are just gonna wait for you to throw your fastball and pound that. Make sure your fastball is good, get a good changeup, and if you want a good breaking pitch, try a 12 to 6 curve. It's really tough for batters to hit, and if you can mix it in with a fastball and possibly a slurve, you will be unhittable.

Are there any left handed shortstops?

Try a back door slider.
Or a sinker works fine aswell, possibly a forkball too.
