Softball help please?
Question:Okay, this is my second season playing Little League Softball. In batting practice and at the cages, I hit really good (sorry to be vain, but I think it's true). Well, in the first two games, I've had five at bats and have struck out all five times. Does anyone have any betting tips? Softball players, how do you get in the ''zone'' when you go up to bat?

Mmm, I played softball from age 7 till 17 and I usually ran into the same problem. The only advice I can give is not to let everything around you psyche you out. Don't go in thinking, "I'm going to impress everyone here" or "What if I do strike-out?"If the other team is doing the typical 'chanting' or 'taunting', think of how nice it would be to knock the ball right into their mouth - but don't think of that as a goal as it will add to the pressure.
If worse comes to worse, and nothing really works for you - see if your team mates will simulate a game for you in practice by giving out the taunts and chants. Most of all, don't let it get you down if you keep striking out. It's no big deal, just a game - right? :)
don't swing too hard and dont swing at bad pitches
I plaied for 5 years was oh my highschool team.. I had the same problem... I think it had to do with being excited and intimidated that a real person was pitching to me, oh and that I have ADD that didn;t help... You have to block out the rest of the feild, even the pitcher, just watch her hands... oh, and try having some one pitch to you at home... that hepls too...
What are some good ways to break in a softball mit besides using it a lot?
this is what I use to do, wait for the 1st ball but don't strike, than the 2nd ball don't strike again, by the 3rd ball hit it hard that's always worked for me.If a closer enters the 9th with a 4 run lead and gives up 1 run before he wins is it ruled a save?
the key is practice, practice, practice ... when you say you "hit really good" in the cages, are you counting making contact with the ball, or good solid hits? ... do you swing at every ball that comes your way? ... or do you let some go by?try the old, throw the ball in the air with one hand, and then quickly grab the bat and hit routine ... this will help with your hand-eye coordination and bat speed
above all, just relax in the box ... get comfy first and then focus on the ball ... not the pitcher or any of the other stuff ... if you watch the ball all the way, you will be able to concentrate and hit the ball
Will the baltimore orioles win the world series this year?
i played softabll since i was 6 and had many offers to colleges. it sounds silly but do affirmations...and before you step in the box close your eyes pictures yourself hitting the ball...and before you enter the box clear your mind and dont think about it, just let it happen...ifyou think too much it will affect your hitting..and plus you might hit well at the batting cages because its very redundant...the pitches are the same..make sure you step closer to the plate at the cages to practice inside pitches and turning on them. and step away from the plate to practice outside pitches and going with the pitch...GOOD LUCK
Practice practice practice. Keep on doing the batting cages.
What is the batting avg of a player who has walked but earned no at bats?
I had this problem except it was the other way around. During practice I would strike out, never hitting the ball that was pitched. During a game I always made contact to the ball, getting base hits or doubles. I figured it either to be the pitch being different somehow from our pitcher (who arches a lot) or my stance.Tell the coach your problem and see what he/she can do.
Why did the mets shave their heads and what's up with the pink bands?
Spend time practicing with a real pitcher. The batting cage is throwing the ball the same way every time and a pitcher will change pitches. When you get up to the plate look at an object in the distance at first rather than looking at the pitcher. This helps your eyes adjust.
Make sure you are relaxed. Do not try to kill the ball. Take a natural swing.
Why doesn't yahoo score board post White sox scores?
Well I play select softball and little league and I have been playing for 6 years. I hit very good although I have a small strike zone so here are a few tips:1- Watch the ball all the way to the bat
2- Turn your hips when you hit the ball
3- Do not move your back foot while hitting just pivit it
4- Keep your hands in on an inside pitch
That is all I can think of right now ,however, depending on what league you are in you can run on a droped 3rd strike meaning if it is your 3rd strike and the catcher drops it you can run to first and try to get there before they throw it down there or tag you.
Is the home run Brian Mccann just hit the first out of all the teams this season?
The batting cage is good practice to get your timing down but I would also say get as much live batting practice as possible to go with the cage because the batting cage tends to throw the same everytime it throws only strikes in other words. As for batting tips continue to practice as much as possible that is great on your part to be working hard at it, if you are striking out it is more than likely because you are not keeping your eye on the ball or you swinging too hard. What I mean by that is that you have to see the ball from the pitcher's hand to your bat when you swing everyone has a tendency to try to hit the ball too hard and when they swing they pull their head out which means they look away from the ball basically towards left field if you are right handed you should try to just make contact the next few at bats you have. To get in a zone first you need lots of batting practice so you are on track there, second when you are on deck in the batter's box you can practice seeing the ball from the pitcher's hand to the plate (watch it all the way each time) and I also like to put a donut(weighted ring) or swing with two bats or a weighted bat to that way when you go up to hit it makes the your bat feel lighter which will help you hit a fastball. I assumed you are playing fastpitch softball but these tips will help in regular softball too. Also where you stand in the batter's box makes a difference if you are striking out because the pitcher is blowing pitches by you get as far back in the box as possible to give yourself more time to hit the pitch if they are throwing alot of offspeed pitches it is good to get up in the box(be careful not to step out when you swing as you will be called out for that) by moving forward you give the ball a little less time to curve etc. Hope this helps you this is exactly what I do when playing baseball and softball, so be patient and get a good a pitch and keep up the hard work in the batting cage! You will be successful if you keep giving your best! I wanted to add I also would take a deep breath before stepping into the batter's box to help with nerves then take a practice swing when you get in to get ready then watch the pitcher's hand like I said and see the ball all the way to the bat! I would suggest also watching the girls playing softball on espn, espn2, espnu, and fox sports(or watch a major league baseball game) and watch what they do hitting wise and don't be afraid to copy them or try to use their style or hitting stance because they are successful for a reason also ask your coach for help if you need im sure they will help you because your batting stance could be your problem and we here at yah answers can't see that so once again good luck to you! I just saw your additional details and that is why I said watch the pitcher in the batter's box because you can see what they are throwing i.e. if they are throwing a fastball first pitch or throwing lots of curveballs or dropballs etc because a good curve will look bad then break into the strike zone and dropballs and changeups will look good then drop out of the strike zone so you will need to lay off them you need to have a strategy going into each at bat sometimes the pitcher may be struggling with walks then you should take some pitches and see if you can get a walk and sometimes if every first pitch is a strike than you need to be ready to hit that first pitch also you can watch the hitter ahead of you and if they are chasing bad pitches you can try to take some pitches but when you get 2 strikes on you I was taught to guard the plate which means just make contact, don't take a big swing just get the bat on the ball. I would study the opposing pitcher when you are in the dugout waiting to hit pay attention to what they are throwing and talk to your teammates about how she is pitching. When is the only time two hall of famers pitched agaisnt each other in the major leagues?
I played baseball and softball for quite a long time. I believe that it is just a mental thing for you. You don't feel the pressure of the game and an out in the batting cage, therefore, when in a game pretend you are just practicing. Don't stress. It effects your mental capability to determine a good ptch from a bad pitch.Work on your stance and find one comfortable where you can see the ball to determine the pitch quality.
Continue doing the batting cage practice, BUT like mentioned by others, have a real person pitch to you as well. This way, each pitch is not accurate or the same.
Goodluck...
Softball is a great sport.
On a scale of 1-10.5, how bad do the yankees suck?
it sounds like ur just nervous when ur in the game. i played little league baseball when i was young and played high school baseball until my soph year. ive been playing a co-ed softball league ( we call it the beer-league) for the past 5 yrs. during baseball, i had simliar issues at the plate. during practice, it really didnt matter since it was practice so i was very relaxed and had no issues. however during game time, when the intensity was way higher, i felt my foreamrs and shoulders stiffen up so when i swang, it was always a lil late.my softball league, i never have any issues like that because its a non-competitive, relaxed, more friendly atmosphere. so i go out there and just have fun.
if ur swing feels the same at practice as when ur in the game, then it's probably timing, but if ur swing feels a lil heavier or tighter because ur tense, then u just need to relax. once u get use to it, it automatically goes away unless ur stressing about ur 0-fer. i think i started a season going 0 fer 10 once but it naturally went away. u get use to the situation and u soon dont even think about it. its just part of the game. some days u have it, some days u dont. just remember to have fun playing and u should be fine.
clear your mind, and just watch the ball leave the pitchers hand at her hip and follow it until it comes to the plate and when you swing the bat don't turn your head keep your head right with the ball, this helps a lot. Try to give yourself pep talks too before batting, and ignore the other players who are talking.
