How does the Designated Hitter rule work?
Question:Can you put your starting pitcher in as your DH?
Can you pitch hit for your DH with the current pitcher?
If your starting pitcher is also in the lineup as your DH, and you pinch hit for him, can he still pitch?
If your starting pitcher is also in the lineup as your DH and you remove him from the mound, can he still hit?
Answers:
2. Yes but the position of DH is terminated for the game.
3. That cannot happen ( pitcher hitting means no DH) unless in college ball when it can ( don't ask me i did not write their rules book)

Because the pitcher is usually the worst offensive player and partly to protect him from injury you use the DH for his place in the lineup but it could be any player. You can pinch hit for the DH and replace him at any point and it doesn't affect the pitcher being left in the game. The reverse is also true. If you take your DH and put in him the field as a defensive player though, you immediately give up the DH and then all 9 players in the field have to bat from then on. Usually happens at the end of long games if the bench has been exhausted.More Questions & Answers...
