Question:MLB could really use a boost right now. I know it will be 50 years before this will ever happen... but they did this during the '40's due to the war, it sure would help the Sport get back into the saddle again as the ''American Game''. The women did not play alongside men. All of the players were women. (The league was started because so many men were in military service.)

during WWII it did fill a void somewhat, but the overall picture was not a good as the movies would have you think. ticket sales where still nearly 605 lower than the mens games, they had a few high marks, and players, but once the uniqueness wore off, the numbers where low, that is why they did not continue in there own legues, there wasn't much intrest. Much like the WBA, they hobble along in bankruptcy, most can only file 254 vof thew seats, they just cannot compete at the same level in the major legue sports, some people just don't want to admit, extremely few woman can compete at the level of even the average major league player, they may try it some time, more power to them, but you won't see many sticking arund once the newness wears off. Like boxing, you see how that woman in boxing competing against men was a farce, the top woman boxer could not even defeat a marginal male pro boxer, it was humiliating. the racial lock out years ago was foolish, color has nothing to do with ability, but gender does, you may get 1 out of 100 who actually get into the major who could be a fair player, and thats just not going to generate much cash flow or interest, and face it, money is what it's all about. My daughter played many sports, she is very competitive, and a real "tom boy", she dominates any team she plays on, but in college she tried playing on an inter-mural rugby team, and just could not compete equally in such a physical sport, it was to brutal on her, same with softball, she was not on the first string of the co-ed team, yet is the star player on the girls team, leading with Rbi's. She even says some sports you just can't really play together unless the guys go easy on you, and she didn't like the patronizing.so she only does woman sports. in high school her cross country team won state, but there best time was equal only to the 6th place mens team, and it was like that in every track and field sport though high school. so no I don't want to see it just for novelty, that gets old quick.it's just a matter of testosterone...girls don't have it...so no

It will never happen, and it has nothing to do with the "women are just as good as men" argument. Women do not have the upper body strength that men do, especially in athletics. Women did not play alongside men in the 40s, they had their own league, like in the movie "A League of Their Own".There is no rule that prohibits women from playing baseball, if women were physically able to do it, then they would be allowed to. In little league, it's no big deal, some girls may even be better players than boys, but once you move into high school or college, then there is a marked difference in size, speed, and strength.

Women deserve the same rights as men. We all know it, it doesn't need to be said. But when it comes to sports, realistically there are some things women just can't do. Women ARE equal to men, but they are different. We may have the stamina and the agility to play the game, but we just don't have the same strength to compete against them. As much as I HATE to admit it, I don't think it's feasible.I did read an article recently that talked about women being umpires in the major leagues. I thought that it was an excellent idea and it's way overdue. If we had some female umpires, it would be an excellent way to make women a part of the game even though they're not able to play.

I'm all for womens rights and crap, of course, I am a woman. But I don't want to see women in baseball. If women were that great to watch at ball we would pay attention to womens softball more like we do womens basketball. Which by the way, I do not watch that either, only hear about it. It has nothing to do with the guys being "hot". I would rather watch the ugliest group of guys in the world play a game of baseball than the hottest men playing along side women. Men don't cry when they break a nail, or have to go home early from the game because they have cramps, cry when they get hit with a 95mph fastball in the leg, not to mention take a pee break every 3 minutes. The women have NEVER played "alongside" the men. during WW2, the women had their own league while MLB played with depleted rosters.as far as if they SHOULD play with the men, show me a female who can run like a typical leadoff hitter, or throw like a #4 starter, catch a .998 fielding pct of major leage hitters, but most importantly, can they hit major league pitching? And I mean WITHOUT making special rules and exceptions for them?
If you can show me females who can do that consistently, then let them compete for a roster spot. No freebies.
For those interested, I support female umpires, because they have shown the ability to maintain discourse and dignity during a professional game with no loss of quality in physical ability. Bring them to the majors if they show the merit.
