Because the Milwaukee Brewers switched leagues. Yet another one of Bud Selig's moves to "enhance" baseball. >:^(. Otherwise, they would be in the AL Central, and one of those teams--probably Minnesota--would be in the AL West. My guess is geography but I dont really know. How do I calculate On Base Percentage?
The imbalance is because of Bud Selig (who else). The Milwaukee Braves, formerly the Boston Braves, and later the Atlants Braves, have the tradition as a National League club. When the realignment went through (to three divisions), the Brewers were transferred from the AL to NL because of the "tradition."If Milwaukee stayed in the AL, there wouldn't be this ridiculous situation.

If you had each league with 15 teams one team would be idle in every series (15 does not divide by 2 evenly), or there would be an interleague game every day of the season. Why do yankee fans feel so damn entitled to win?
you have 16 nl teams and 14 al teams..there is no way to have all divisions with equal amounts of teams. The last MLB expansion took the number of teams to 30. If they were divided equally between leagues, one team in each league would always be off.
Instead, the Devil Rays went to the AL and the Diamondbacks to the NL, while the Brewers were volunteered by that imposter of a comissioner to move to the NL, so that each league would have an even number of teams.
Within each league, there are three divisions, and the teams are divided as evenly as is possible between the divisions.
This happened because Bud Selig, in his infinite wisdom, decided to move the Brewers from the AL to the NL. There was no basis for this move, because they didn't change cities, and there was no new expansion team at the time.
