The top athletes have simply moved on.

That number is being filled in by Hispanics and Asian, probably.

That is because it's not Cool like basketball or football,, it's just not thug enough! oh ya maybe that's why they call Baseball the gentleman's sport!

What MLB team has the most 1st round draft picks on their current 40-man roster?

I would definatly Say because basketball and football are much more exciting to them. Baseball is more a stationary sport and not quite as athletic and can be a lot more boring With a lot more successful African Americans in Basketball and football it would only make more sense.

Youngest starting pitchers?

Blacks are just not as interested in baseball as much as they used to be. A lot of people say that baseball doesn't market itself to African-Americans, but I think that baseball has lost a lot of its popularity in general. Football and basketball are great spectator sports, and great athletes will play those instead of baseball. ESPN seems to think that baseball is racist, but that's not it at all. Baseball is perceived as being a slow, mellow sport, while Football and basketball get a lot of exposure as fast paced, exciting sports. Young people will choose those instead. Because African-Americans are not playing baseball as much, you are seeing more and more Latin, Japanese, and other foreign players.

Freeway world series?

"It's never been this low in the history of baseball"? You do realize that next Sunday is the 60th anniversary of Jackie Robinson's major league debut, and that he was the first black player in MLB since the 1880's.

Now that you've had that very brief history lesson, let's answer your question.

They're playing other sports, particularly football and basketball. For years, MLB pretty much ignored the concept of growing the game from the ground up, and this is one of the results. This has opened the way for players from around the world.

Are the bases inside or outside of 90 feet?

Well it can't be about the money because baseball players get paid a ton of money. I think it is because there are more hispanic players now than there ever was before.

How much is this photo worth?

That's easy-lack of participation, and its been this way for about the last 3 decades. Black kids are gravitating towards basketball and football much more so than baseball. Check out Tampa Bay, though. They have some of the best young African-American baseball talent all together on one team. Elijah Dukes, Delmon Young, BJ Upton and Carl Crawford-tho Crawford is more established. Perhaps when the Rays' fortunes rise as a team and they get more exposure in the media, it might get the attention of some young black athletes and get them thinking about excelling in baseball.

Save oppurtunity?

The incorporation of Latinos and Asian players is the reason for the decline. I'm willing to bet this year is the lowest percentage ever for caucasion players too. The MLB is now a world wide leage. Its not as easy to make it to the majors as it was 50 years ago when you had to be the best in the US. Now with the Latino and Asian players making a huge contribution, you have to be one of the top player sin the entire world.

The whole "its not exciting enough" or "theres more money on other sports" is grabage. If an African American player loves the game of baseball and is good enough to play for a GM who thinks he gives them a chance to win, it will happen. And the same goes for any nationality.

SF Giants fans only: Whats your opinion of Bonds?

I find 8% really hard to believe. What are the other percentages? The percentage for Latin/Hispanic sure must be WAY up. I don't know the politically correct term. Okay, I looked it up and the article I read says last year it was 17% and Hispanics were 20%. It also said Blacks are tuning in to other sports and not baseball. Basketball and football mostly. I sure don't know why, though. It can't be the money. Myabe there is more status from football and basketball.

How bad are the Phillies?

honestly there aren't that many more whites. the game is majority players from peurto rico, venezuela, and countries like that

Does anybody care if Barry Bonds breaks the record?

Why don't we ask why there are so few white players in the NBA? Or why only 3 out of 10 players in the NFL are white? What would the answer be?

Nearly 30% of MLB is Latino/Hispanic, and the number is growing. They have made tremendous strides in the past decade, and have produced outstanding ballplayers. Why have they been able to do it, and the black community have not?

Can Mariano Rivera's number be retired?

Black people are raised liking football and basketball generally. It has nothing to do w/ racism.
