Was 1996 the craziest year in baseball ?
Question:Look at most peoples stats in 1996..its downright crazy how obvious that either steriod use was at its peak or something was wrong with the baseballs. If you ever get a chance look at the stats for the following players before 1996 and after: Kevin Elster, Sosa, Palmeiro, vinnyCastilla, Todd Hundley, Brady anderson, Ed Sprague, jeff King, Terry Steinbech. i left off the colorado players like Ellis burks and Dante bichette becuase of the thin air up there. Guys like Griffey, mo vaughn, juan gonzalez, frank thomas were already putting up good numbers and the same can be said for Sheffield, Bonds and Mcguire even though we all know they are very suspect but I will give those three the benefit of the doubt, for now. Giambi was not juiced yet so his numbers were actually low for that year. No disrespect to Giambi, but he practically admited it. He still remains one of my favorite players... Check 1996 out its very interesting.

It's no coincidence that it was right after the strike of 94-95.If anyone doubts that owners, mangers, trainers, GMs intentionally looked the other way when their players were juicing they are living in fantasy land.

Wow !! what a crazy year. Kevin elster hit 24 homeruns and drove in 99 rbis !!! Thats nuts. The guy never hit more than 10 hrs or drove in more than 55 rbis before that year...Did basdeball not think people would notice?
I think your comment answers your question but look at how many one year wonders there are, and then see what baseball would do about this. I am sure if you looked at other years in the second half of the 1990's you'd find a few players who are in the same boat.
One other point- and this does not justify the use at all- but if everyone was doing it how wrong was the steroid abuse?
