In Baseball how many ways can you reach first base and never make contact with the ball?

You are looking for rules 6.08 and 6.09.
6.08a does not differentiate between an intentional walk and a normal one, so I don't know that you want to count them as separate. However, according to rule 10.02a(12) and 10.02a(13) does specify for the official scorer to keep a tally of total BBs (which includes IBBs) and then a separate tally of how many were IBBs, so I guess you could count it as two methods if you want.
6.08b is for hit by pitch (worded as touched by a pitched ball), although my first instinct when you asked this question was not to count this, because you have made contact, just not with the bat.
6.08c is for catcher's and fielder's interference, but for the purpose of NOT making contact, only the catcher could interfere. This is NOT a walk.
6.09b is for a dropped 3rd strike, but only when first is open, unless there are two outs, in which case first doesn't need to be open. Also, if the batter does not realize his situation and does not move towards first but instead leaves the dirt circle surrounding home plate, he is out and not awarded first.
So if you want to be a real stickler, so far there are 3 methods, catcher's interference, a BB or a dropped 3rd strike (meeting the other criteria). Or, you could count IBBs separate and not count being hit by the pitch as contact, in which case there are 5 methods.
I have another, that (at least when I started typing this answer) nobody has mentioned. You just ask how you can reach first base without making contact, so you don't specify being awarded first base. So if you are put in as a pinch runner at first, you reach first base (despite not technically being awarded first) without making contact.
So conservatively, 3 methods. Liberally, 6.
Oh, and the ruling on the balk and the penalty applied is at the very end of Rule 8.05, just after part m.
**Looks like someone beat me to the punch on pinch runner while I was typing.

Why does it look as if mlb players are always wearing new caps?
Catcher interference, Walk, Hit by Pitch, third strike and catcher drops the ball and a intensional walk.Dream pitching rotation of now day players ?
I believe the answer is 4 ways:1) Walk (4 balls)
2) Intentional walk (4 balls)
3) HBP (Hit-by-pitch)
4) Passed ball/ wild pitch on strike three if batter is not tagged out or thrown out before attempting to reach 1st base.
And possibly a 5th:
5) Catcher interference on batter in full count (however, may still just be a walk).
Balk definetly doesn't get awarded first base, it only advances all runners 1 base.
In 2003, who was the batter that hit the ball Steve Bartman knocked away from Moises Alou?
There are six ways in total:Hit
fielding error on hit ball
Walk
third pitch strike that's dropped (with an error, wild pitch, passed ball, etc)
hit by pitched ball
catcher's interference
Since the first two requie you to hit the ball, your answer is 4
Looking over the other answers, you can't get to first on a balk and an intentional walk is still a walk. I am not sure why people think that they are significantly different.
Is it time to End Interleague play ??
base on ballscatcher's interference

hit by pitch doesn't count because as the question says, "without making contact with the ball"... :)
