It will probably be around 4.36. It depends on how many innings your team has already pitched though. Why do they call Ken Harrelson "Hawk"?
Earned Run Average is calculated by the number of earned runs given up over the number of innings pitched. You're not giving enough details for this question to be answered. You had at least three pitchers combine for the 17 innings? Maybe more? What you do is figure out the ERA for each pitcher. Some will be 0.00 others will be higher. Then you add those up and divide by the number of pitchers. 4.39 sounds right if you had 3 or 4 pitchers today.Who has hit the most career home runs in major league baseball WITHOUT hitting a grand slam?
Your ERA for today?2x9=18.
18/17=1.06.
You would need to supply your season totals for innings pitched and earned runs to figure the season ERA for your fantasy staff.
Jugger has the right idea, but wrong answer. Your ERA for today is 1.06. To figure it out for your team take the total number of runs allowed by all pitchers, divide it by the total number of innings pitched by all pitchers and multiply by 9.
It's not the same just to add all the ERAs and average them.
You could have one that pitched 8 inn. and gave up 5 runs for a 5.63 ERA and one that pitched 2 shutout inn. The average of the two is 2.82 but the actual ERA is 4.50.
