Yes, there is a chance that the managers will get into the game. Last season, Bobby Cox actually started 4 games in centerfield for the Braves and made a few spectacular diving catches. Ron Gardenhire also utilized himself as a pinch-runner last season on multiple occasions.

What's the best baseball book that you've read?

No so much now, but at one time many of them were referred to a player/manager and did get into the game. Pete Rose was a good example of this. That is why they wore uniforms and numbers. It is a tradition that just stuck and I like that they are dressed like the regular players.

Who in Major League baseball determines if a fielder has committed an error?

While coaches are required to be in uniform, the team manager is not -- an olde-tyme rule made to accomodate longtime Athletics manager (and owner) Connie Mack, who wore a suit while managing. However, only uniformed personnel are allowed on the field during play (other than for medical assistance, like the trainer, when needed). And back in the day, there was the occasional player-manager, though we haven't seen one since Rose put down the bat in 1986. It's more tradition than anything else, though if the manager doesn't wear the uni he cannot visit the mound or turn in the lineup card, and must send a coach to do it.
