Question:
Answers:
Who was the first Japanese born player in major league baseball?
Bill Singer, in relief of Don Drysdale, Opening Day (April 7) 1969. Singer went on to win 20 games that year, and this was his only relief apperance. That's the first official save anyway. Review of historical box scores and game descriptions has led to older saves being identified.
Who Will Wint The World Series?
This may be a tough one. The save was not an official stat when major league baseball began. It has really only become a stat in today's game where you have pitchers like Joe Nathan, Jon Papelbon, and Mariano Rivera who have the job of coming in during the ninth inning to secure the win.I could not find that one, but Major League Baseball saves did not become an officially recognized statistic until the 1969 season.
Maybe Harry Wright in 1871? 3 saves.
Are there any Washington Nationals fans here?
