Just go around to garage sales and yard sales and look for people selling boxes of them. I picked up a box of over 1000 cards priced at $300+ for 10$ at a yard sale a while backWhich team do you see winning the World Series in 2007?
buy card in boxes, not packs individualy. Ebay helps, and i havn't tried yard sales, but only buy if they are in good condition. Don't spend 50 bucks on a wrinkled Yogi BErra from a Kellogs box. Spend it on ebay for a few older cards in perfect condition. Condition can affect the price by over 50 %!Also, buy Topps or Upper Deck only. None of that Pinnacle or other No-Name crap that gives you every star in every pack. Topps givs 6 cards per pack of 07, UD gives 6 also, i think. Pinnacle gives 15 or some crazy amount. If you buy that many in one pack, the odds are that they contain a star. However, the star is in the pack the guy behind you bought. And the 6 guys behind him.
You should do quality over quantity. UD gives awsome inserts like autos and game used. Topps gives a few game used, but they are a better card with the player. I somethimes think UD tries too hard.

start collecting for the future. Buy the new box sets of Topps and Upper Deck. They can be kinda pricey but you never know who 9 years down the line will be a future hall of famer.
