What do you think about getting rid of the minor league system in baseball?
Question:if we got rid of the minor leagues i think that baseball would be better. players would have to go to college, have to be really good to get to the majors, and no not as many people would be able to get into the majors making the competiton greater making baseball more exciting in the game and the draft would be more like the football draft. what do you think??

The players in the MLB will be raw, and teams will have to make hard decisionssome of the most promising player might never get a chance

Really horrible idea. Even players graduating from college need to mature in the minor leagues. They are essential to the sport. If your commisioner for a day what would you do?
It would suck b/c you need a minor league for every team cause players get injured. So where are you gonna get a replacement.....College. Gotta go to minor....Alot of people go to only minor league games. Yours truly is one of them. I've an uncle who coached in the minors for 25 years. The minors is a class act and the main source for major leaguers.
No, no, no! Don't take away my minor league team --- Go Biscuits!
Seriously though, no. While in theory it sounds great that the players would be going to college and getting a college education, look at the results of the basketball and football. Reports from colleges across the nation are rampant on grade fixing and the players majoring in "basket weaving" so they will remain eligible to play. Very few college players make it to the pros, and how many "basket weavers" have you hired lately?
If you caught a home run ball hit by the opposing team, what would you do?
Fay Vincent has spoken on the issue, and has stated that the minor league system needs to be overhauled as this is an area where MLB teams dump a lot of cash into an antiquated system. The NFL draft is unique and there is no way baseball could have the same bounce, since there is little or no coverage of college and high school players, so only the hardest core of fan would know about that "can't miss" HS catcher from North Carolina or that great outfield prospect from a Texas JUCO.
Baseball remains a funnel, where so many players go into the system and only the best (better) make it to the majors. Maybe like pro hockey, teams would combine resources to stock teams - and consolidate that way - but working together has never been a great resource for MLB owners.
Who in baseball is the biggest joke to wear number 38?
Bad idea for several reasons. First you have to realize that many of the players in the minor league system are fresh out of high school. The minor leagues not only give these kids a low pressure way to adjust to the life of a professional ballplayer, it also allows them to slowyly adjust to the rigors of a major league season.Plus it allows talented players to develop their skills rather than being thrown right into the fire. Football needs a minor league system. I think players like Ryan Leaf and Andre Ware would have benefited from 2 years of playing regularly at a lower level.
You also have to realize that many of the best players in the MLB are coming from overseas and might not be able to enroll in US colleges.
Also, the minor leagues serve as baseball's ambassadors to this country. For a lot of small towns and rural areas, the local minor league team provides a sense of community and serves to sell the Major League Product.
Is A Rod cheating with steroids?
Minor League players are good players. If not for the Minor Leagues several players would have gone unnoticed. Also if not for the Minor Leagues some people would never get to see a proffesional baseball game. They are affordable family entertainment. Also I wouldn't want someone to lose their job because of a closingNo. The minor league sysytem in baseball is unique in that it is the only sport with a development program as developed as it is. The minor leagues have been around for over 100 years. In the minors, players get to hone their skills and develop into better ballplayers. Also, it gives a chance for veterans who are injured to rehab in live game situations before they move up to the demands of an MLB game. Furthermore, teams can evaluate players and decide who might best fit in the makeup of the major league team.
Where I live, there is a AA team only 20 miles away. I've gotten a chance to see many future stars when they were just up and comers.

no yhats stupid they can develope in the minor league with proffesional coaches.bad idea. with minor league you have the ability to bring young players along and if they are called up, they are physically ready. also it is good for the players to use for rehab after surgery. and it also gives people who dont live in cities with major league teams the chance to go to a game.
