the card itself, but also that it is in perfect condition. How hard is it to walk on a D-III baseball team?
Cards arn't worth anything these days. they are way to mass produced.A few years ago I went with my cousin who had a bunch of cards he wanted to sell. John Elway Rookie cards, Joe Montana Rookie cards, Lawrence Taylor rookie cards, Dan Marino rookie cards, and so on and so on. you should get the point. everyone of his cards was worth over $100 as far as the beckett book says. No card shop would touch them because they all had those cards,.
you should seal your cards up in air tight container then bury them for your grandkids, grandkids. grandkids. let them 100 years from now un bury them. thats when they MIGHT BE WORTH $$$$
I'm just curious as to why Red Sox fans hate Johnny Damon?
Age - Condition - BuzzI have cards of "nobody's" from 1911 that are worth real money. Age is big.
A 1953 Mantle card can be worth $5000, $500, or $5 - same card but different conditions. If the back is ripped off or somebody has cut off the corners the value can really go down. And for new cards... a ding, barely visible to the eye can make the card worthless.
Finally, sell when people are talking about the player. If you look at the prices of Griffey, Rodriguez, and Ichiro during their hay-day compared to now there is quite a difference. People buy new cards on speculation... When a player starts breaking records it's too late to buy. It's actually time to sell!
As far as grading is concerned I prefer Beckett. It is more important to me for my older stuff because they will state that the card is real and the hard plastic case will prevent accidental damage to the card. I wouldn't spend the money grading a $10.00 card, but for cards that you value it's a good investment.
