What is a good estimate for the average number of pitches thrown by one pitcher in an inning of baseball?

Where is the baseline supposed to be?
Anything in single digits is considered amazing. Average is probably around 16. If it gets up to 20, that usually means it was a bad inning for the pitcher.Typically in the majors, these guys have pretty darn good stuff and command of their pitches. A starting pitcher is generally capped at 100-110 pitches. In today's game, with the predominance of relief pitchers a starter will generally throw 7 good innings.
Therefore, I would say the general number of pitches thrown in an inning would average from 13-17 an inning.
Of coarse you may have a shorter inning, 9 pitches or even less, but there are also innings which the pitcher will have to battle the hitters alittle more, which may run the number up into the 20's.
However, it is all about the average!
Hope that helps...
That depends on the pitcher! Some guys are more efficient than others. Pick which pitcher you want to look at & find the total # of pitches they threw in a season (or whatever period of time) and divide that by the number of innings pitched.

Well three is the minimum but that probably doesn't happen too often. I'd say (if the pitcher is real good) 10ish. If not so good probably 15-20.What would happen if barry bonds hit like 50 homers this year? Would people respect him then?
Around 15 or so. A good pitcher will throw about 120 or less per game (around 13 pitches per inning), most will be a bit above that.Only an estimate, but I'd say about 15.
