Mark Prior... funny guy or whiny idiot?

Question:Prior, who pitched terribly all spring, said this about his demotion to the minors:
"I'm just an employee," the former 18-game winner said Thursday. "The goal now is to go down and help that team win and try to make the Triple-A All-Star team. Maybe I can get invited to the Futures Game or something. I'm still 26."

I say shut up and get someone out. Then you can be sarcastic...

What do you think?

Answers:

Does anyone ele find it disgusting that Josh Hancock's father is suing?

As a Cubbies fan, I used to be really excited about Prior's potential. The problem lies in the fact that it has always remained potential, and his constant injured status never helps the team.

It sounded like he was upset, but he needs to understand that he has not been pitching. Meanwhile, a few seasons have gone bye, and the Cubs have been very patient.

I'm also getting a little impatient with Kerry Woods. If these guys cannot pitch due to injuries, then the Cubs needs to move them.

Who here is a cubs fan even though that are really bad? i am.?

i agree... he is just a whiny idiot and should stay put in the minors haha

Which player, past or present, would you want up in the bottom of the 9th of a tied Game 7 of the World Series

I'm a big Cubbies fan and I still think Prior has a future with the club. I think he is just trying to make the best out of the situation he is in. He is handling it a lot better than a lot of the bigger "egos" would.

Where is Tobey Bailey?

Him talking like that is a lot better than him complaining about being down in the minors. He just has to let off some steam from his repeated disapoinments.

Mark Prior has bigger problems than whether he makes the opening day roster. Injuries to pitchers are common and can happen any time. When they happen over and over, chances are they will continue if no changes are made to his delivery. Until he finds a way to pitch that will both get people out and keep him off the DL, he doesn't have much of a future at any level. Insert Kerry Wood's name and the answer is the same.

Do you think the St. Louis Cardinals will work out their problems?

He's just gotten the bad end of the stick. Three years ago he was one of the top pitching prospects in the majors. A couple arm injuries later, he's lost his confidence, I think he'll go down to Tripe A, dominate there, and be back to lead the Cubbies to the World Series.

How 'bout them Brewers?

i guess it is just better than whining openly about it, but a lot of people will make a big deal out of these types of comments most likely and trash him for it

Pitcher!! Got some tips!?

its more a mental thing and just plain bad luck. Prior was a lot more than a prospect with potential in 2003 and 2004. he was near the top of best pitchers in the game. His bad luck comes from running over brian giles, being hit on the elbow by a pitch ect. it is human nature to lay back because of not wanting to be injured. He will be back, his last 2 outings were very good and he wouldve been a whole lot better in the last if the defense didnt commit a few errors

What is that string that some baseball players wear around there necks?

I don't think he's being whiny as much as he is frustrated. The guy has immense talent, but has been hampered a great deal by injury problems. I don't like bashing a player because he has injuries. No player likes to be injured or wants to be injured.

He knows how great his potential is, but his ability to reach that level has been hampered by things out of his control. So he's a little frustrated, hey, the guy's human!!!

Why aren't all the bases in baseball flat?

I wouldn't jump on the guy. He was supposed to be the next big thing, he works hard at what he does, and he just hasn't been blessed with a Cal Ripkin constitution. I'm sure that hes at least as upset as any fan is with all his injuries. He was probably just dealing with his many disappointments by using some sarcastic humor.
