Is baseball really a sport?

Question:I know, mom's apple pie and baseball. Since when have you had homemade apple pie anyway? lol My question is this: baseball requires very little conditioning and 90% of the action involves three players: the pitcher, the batter, and the catcher. If baseball is in the olympics, why not bowling?

Answers:

Is Curt Schilling all of a sudden desperate for a little attention or is he suffering from PMS?

Amen. Baseball has too much dead time and tobacco spitting. I would honestly watch bowling than waste my time looking at this manure.

Where can i find site to have major league baseball player call afriend for free?

In terms of games, baseball plays more games than any other professional sport. To maintain that kind of durability you need a lot of conditioning. Not to mention, all plays involve sprinting.

Oh, and I believe they're taking baseball out of the Olympics.

Who thinks the mets will make the playoffs? Why?

When you can catch up to a 95mph fastball or stand in there against the offspeed pitches some of these guys throw, you will learn immediately its a sport.

There is more to sport than physical conditioning. Could a 300lb offensive lineman leg out a double? Nope, he could do it about the same as Carl Crarford could bust an offensive line and take down a QB.

It requires concentration and as much hand-eye co-ordination as any sport...

How far can the Boston Red Sox go this year?

You sound like a soccer player.

In baseball, at what point does a foul ball to the catcher become a foul out instead of a strike?

Baseball requires a LOT of conditioning. When was the last time you crouched down in a catcher's squat for 9 innings? When was the last time you threw a baseball 100+ feet across a diamond with consistency? Look at the athleticism of most of the players making defensive plays. They are diving into the stands and jumping up walls to make plays. Ozzie Smith was known for his amazing diving plays and range. Ricky Henderson stole over a 1000 bases in his career. Joel Zumaya of the Detroit Tigers can throw a baseball 103 mph. They don't just wake up one day running fast as hell and throwing the ball over 100mph, it takes conditioning!

Do people forget how good Griffey Jr was because he played in Seattle?

Baseball requires very little conditioning? Have you ever played organized baseball, such as little league or high school? I beg to differ. It may not look like much on tv sometimes, but baseball moves at a pretty high speed. It's not like only three guys are in on the action as you wrote. Whenever a ball is hit, there are multiple players moving in that direction, not just the player to whom the ball is hit. When a ball is hit to the outfield, not only is the outfielder moving to catch the ball, but also another outfielder to back him up. When a ball is hit to the right side, you have the second baseman going for the ball, maybe the first baseman, the pitcher running to first, and the catcher to back up. Those guys do that several times a game, it's not like your average guy can get off the couch and do that. As for running the bases, I would say most people couldn't sprint around the bases without falling down and gasping for breath somewhere between first and second. Baseball players do it every day, they have to be in great shape.

When I was 16 and got into the older leagues, the coaches began to run us until we dropped, the game gets very fast. It is a lot tougher than it looks running from home to second, and even young guys in shape are breathing hard. That was playing once or twice a week, not 162 games a season.

MLB players lose a lot of weight during the season, which is why they work so hard during the offseason to bulk up. Throwing, running, swinging, and all of the movements a player makes defensively require a LOT of conditioning, which is why teams have strength and conditioning coaches now.

BTW, I am all for bowling in the olympics, I'd actually watch!

Why doesn't my gf play? what can i say to him to make him feel better?

It has a set of rules and a scoring system, so yes, baseball is a sport.
Baseball requires a lot of conditioning. Those guys play every night, and although they don't have to do a lot, when they do have to act, they have to act swiftly. Unless you are just a designated hitter, you need to be in top physical shape. It is not a sport for fat people.

What would your dream lineup be?

Haha, is this supposed to be a joke?

Who is the greatest pitcher of all time?

Baseball will no longer be in the Olympics after 2008. Bowling will never be in the Olympics since Rugby 7's, Squash and other sports have more widespread appeal.

You really don't understand how the game is played Infielders and Outfielders are kind of important. Have you've ever seen leaping and diving catches? Or what about the range of a good SS and 2B. Speed, Strength and hand-eye coordination are all necessary attributes.

Look if you don't keep yourself in shape then your career is going to be over very soon Again the fact you say very little conditioning shows how little you know about baseball. Pitchers work out in the off season to keep up arm strength and other players as well to prepare for the season.

If baseball is so easy then try out for a pro team and see how far you get since you don't think baseball requires any conditioning.

Travis Hafner doesnt lead the Indians in any hitting category. Should this be a worry?

Baseball is a game. As is other games that play with a ball. Track and swimming are examples of sports.

How much do u think my 2003 world series ball is worth?

Yes baseball is a sport.

Give me 3 players that you think will go yard tonight? 10pt to the closest trio.?

Bowling is a game, not a sport, its the same set up every time. Baseball takes precision, strategy, defense, outsmarting opponents, and everything is put to chance. Figure skating, cheerleading, gymnastics, and any other event where you get judged by a panel is not a sport. Theres a difference between scoring points like a goal and being graded points. Think about it, do you practice or rehearse?

Whats ur favorite mlb?

Yes, baseball is a sport.

If there is a man on base, a foul ball is hit but the feilder drops the ball can the man on base tag up ???

Myself, I define a sport as any contest you can't do drunk. So in those terms, yes it is.

Devil Rays or Yankees?

No conditioning? Hitting a 100mph fastball is one of if not the hardest thing to do in baseball you have 2 tenths of a second to make your decision to swing or not.

Then if you do get a hit you run to 1st and it takes you roughly 5.06 seconds i believe is the statistic. While derek jeter gets it and throws it at an average of 90mph to first.

You go out and try to play against the pros as an average person and you will get mocked.

People like you make me laugh..

If a Boston Red Sox season ticket holder loses his ticket(s)...?

yes baseball is a sport. after hockey it is probably the hardest sport. can u throw a 100mph fastball? can u bend over backwards to catch a ball, and keep it in ur glove? can u have a 30 plus games hitting streak? can you hit 50 home runs in 1 season? or can u put ur foot on a gas pedal and drive around in circles in a car that is a racing advertisment? sound fimiliar? yea i bet is does because it's called AUTO RACING which is one of the most stupid sports out there. or can u hit a ball into the hole and call it amazin?! i bet u can becasue it's called golf. is baseball REALLY a sport? u tell me. y do u think after a player is like 45 they can't play baseball any more, but my 92 year old grand father can PLAY the so called SPORT of golf all day. y do u think sandy koufax had 2 stop pitching when he was like really young. BECAUSE BASEBALL IS A SPORT AND TAKES A LOT OF PHYSICAL STRENGTH. oh and 2 answer ur question again JUST INCASE U DIDN'T UNDERSTAND THE 1st SENTANCE OF MY ANSWER! yes. baseball is REALLY a sport. oh and i am not sure y bowling is not adn olympic sport. bowling is considered a sport at my school. oh yea but my grand pa can also bowl, but not as long as he can quote on quote PLAY golf.

Which was the biggest ripoff?

I wanted to answer your question but I changed my mind. You sound too ignorant to be answered.
