hold it like an egg, very lightly and you create very little friction so the ball velocity is faster. When you want to throw a change-up hold the ball tighter, with more fingers on the surface and with the same motion as your fastball you can take 10MPH off the speed. Learn a two and four seam fastball and a good change-up, be able to "command" them, i.e. throw strikes with them and you are well on the way to being a very good pitcher. Worry about sliders, curves, cutters, etc. at a later point. The pitches I mentioned will get you through H.S. if you can throw strikes and keep the ball down.
