What is the fastest pitch recorded in history in pro baseball?

Question:

Answers:

What does the term, "out of the stretch" mean in baseball?

Fans, researchers, historians and even the players argue all the time about who was the fastest pitcher of all-time. The most widely quoted response is Nolan Ryan, whose fastball was "officially" clocked by the Guinness Book of World Records at 100.9 miles per hour in a game played on August 20, 1974 versus the Chicago White Sox. A record that's still included in the book.

I know thw symbol of the NBA is supposed to me Jerry West. Does anyone know who the MLB symbol is?

i've never heard of over 103

A-rod's homers?

I don't really know the answer, but the fastest I have heard of is from that kid on the Detroit Tigers. His last name is Zumaya,he throws like 106 MPH.

Is that catch by Derek Jeter where he goes into the stands THAT good (read the details!)?

the guiness book of world records recognizes Nolan Ryan as having the fastest "officially recorded" pitch at 100.9 mph during a game.

There is another guy, Feller, who claims to have been clocked at 104 mph, and then at 107.9 mph by an authentic speed gauge.

This is a very tough record to actually put a label on, but if your going with authenticity then it has to be Nolan Ryan, regardless of claims, since the machines may not have been as accurate as originally perceived.

Without using Yankees or Red Sox.?

this is a great question. i remember searching for it on the guiness book of records and it was nolan ryan just under 101 but last year during the world series, both verlander and zumaya were hitting the guns at 103 and the broadcasters were talking about how fast it was yet nothing about being the fastest pitch or anything.

Steve Dalkowski a Baltimore Orioles' minor leaguer who reportedly cound "bring it" at nearly 110 miles an hour. But Dalkowski never made it to the majors: In a 1963 spring training game, shortly after striking out Roger Maris of the New York Yankees, the left-hander suffered a career-ending elbow injury

Do you like going to day or night baseball games?

I think I answered this one before. The fastest recorded pitch by a professional was 110 mph by Steve Dalkowski of New Britain in the early '50's. He never made it into the majors because of control problems...Both kinds. Not only could he not find the strike zone but he was also a heavy drinker and often threw under the influence. His is one of the many colorful biographies in professional baseball.

Who will win the world series?

Walter "Big Train" Johnson was acknowledged as having a pretty fast pitch. Some baseball historians suspect it may have been over 100 mph, but of course there's no way to verify that.
