Swing help?
Question:Im having trouble with my swing...my senior year in high school is coming up and im expecting a big year and so does the coaching staff...i havnt had a big year in high school since my freshman year..where i hit over .420..im a catcher and then say catchers dont hit...well i hav hit every where i i have played..except on varsity..i havent hit over .260...this season is over..we made it to the state tournament winning our divison..bt we faced Horizon as our first game..lost 2-1..agains the number 1 team in state!! we were number 16..so we are pretty good...anyways..i hav trouble stayin back...im nt hitting against my front leg if u knw wat i mean...i need to stay down..everytime i swing it feels like my body goes up...any tips will help..

i have struggled off and on and tried a few different things. two years ago i hit over .400 in my county league and last year i barely cleared .250. this year im back on pace and currently hitting .500. my problem was similar so what i did was widen my stance and go to a "no stride" swing, just lifting my heal instead of stepping, and then taking the "butt" of the bat straight at the ball. sounds weird but it keeps your swing level and all ive hit are line-drives and ground balls. try it in bp and see if its comfortable.Get your front foot down early and gain ground. This means swing like there is a wall behind you. Don't get long.
You have to pick 3 current different players. Who would you have sign you jersey, ball , and bat ?
I find that if you bend your back leg a little more than usual you will stay down with a more level swing.Also a heavier bat helps.It takes some getting used to but you will have more power tooFirst get your vision checked . I know you can see all right. Get it checked anyway.
Second, hold your bat at such an angle that your are swinging parallel to the incoming ball. Start your swing a little slow.
Instead of swinging down then back up to meet the ball, if you hold your bat a little lower while waiting for delivery, you should have more control.

Higgy is spot on with his response, try make your stance wider. I hit with the no stride concept in college and it works. Your trigger with your feet can be a simple lift and replace to the ground. Try is with soft toss first or with a hitting tee. It will feel very differnt but it very effective Good luckMore Questions & Answers...
